I have this really weird problem and I'm burning to find out whether anyone else had it. Sometimes SMSs get sent twice! I don't think it is because I have accidentally added the recipient's number to the number field twice. Anyone?
ive had this on my old phone before, is it showing up twice in the sms or is the recipient telling you theyre getting it twice? if its the latter then its not likely to be the phone but the network smsc between your network and theirs good way to test is trying the sim in another phone. if it still happens report it to your provider
It is both showing up twice in the SMS app and it is being sent twice. I know because I have checked with some of the recipients: they really got two messages.
Today I cross-sent an SMS to five people and the phone sent each of them two messages! Incredibly annoying. I am wondering whether the commas in my contacts have anything to do with it. I store contacts as Surname, Name.
have you guys tried sending it from a different sms Program for example if your using the default sms app , use Handcent sms and see if that helps?
Thanks for the tip, I'll try that. It's still very weird that only I have this problem (and it's a bug I can reproduce!). I'd write to the authors of the default SMS application if I knew who they were.
do some simple tests if you can... - create a new contact name without coma's etc, and see if u have the problem - try with the same sim in another phone - try with a different network sim in your samsung - try a different SMS program - try a factory reset (backup first if you have rooted)
Thank God, I am not crazy! This is a known issue and a patch is even available: https://review.source.android.com/#change,10725 Now, how do I apply this patch to my phone? I hope that there is some mechanism to do that. It would really suck if I had to wait untill Samsung thought the time is right to incorporate this fix into a new firmware.
Looks to me like it's just the messaging app that contains that bug and not in the system itself so if you compile the messaging app from the updated tree and install it, it should fix your problem or you could just use a 3rd party app like handcent sms
I'm unhappy to report that I'm on IK4 and this problem still persists. I have bumped this for all the people who are defending Samsung in the (unfortunately numerous) complaints threads. Here is one issue which is not simply inconvenient, it's a serious bug that is actually costing customers like me real money! It's a daily pain in the ass to work around it so that messages don't get sent twice. The case against Samsung here is strong enough to win me a lawsuit in some jurisdictions and have my costs fully reimbursed by the company.
if you choose to use certain chars in your contacts as explained in that bug report that causes this issue for you even after you know what it is that causes it. its up to you unfortunately most people wont even see this bug as they dont use commas in their contacts names. i certainly never had this issue myself and not alot of people seem to report it so at this point samsung will assume its not one of priority
I have a couple of hundred of contacts and I store them as Surname, Name This is a very common way to store contacts. I do not want to change all 300+ of them by hand. I do not want to change them at all! I don't think it's funny to suggest that I should. The way I circumvent this problem now is to get the contact from the list, then delete his/her name and leave only the phone number in the To: field. Works but is tedious. Also, doesn't work well for crossposted SMSs (messages with multiple people as recipients) which I actually use a lot. Problem also doesn't occur once you have an SMS conversation with someone and reply without using the To: field. As soon as you need to use To: you have this problem.
im not saying its funny im just saying that because its not something thats deemed as common place it wont be a priority to samsung lets hope when if it gets to the 2.1 android it will be fixed as thats alread patched regarding this problem
