I found this on XDA: Can we flash over the old ROM?

Scroll down to the third post. I did everything listed there, plus flashed Superwipe twice and I found that my phone runs smoother. I used to just wipe cache, dalvik cache and data plus Superwipe, but I think I will be doing it this way from now on! It's more work, but it's worth it.

yeah it does not hurt to really wipe well before flashing as long as you do not wipe sd card. i only wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data along with superwipe like you and i never had any issues. but whatever works for you is what you should go with.

I wipe everything but SD card at least twice and then flash superwipe. I dont bother with all of the rebooting and wiping that that person does though.

I agree my method has been very effective. I have not suffered any Ill affects do to an improper wipe.

All you need to do with ra is data/factory reset, cache, dalvik, flash calkulins format all. Super wipe, wiping stuff 3 times is overkill honestly. Again, with ra, not sure about other recoveries. Wipe to your hearts content then I guess.
