Tracfone to Simple Mobile

OK, I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 phone, have had Tracfone for a few years as my carrier. Received new Simple Mobile SIM kit card in mail. Do I just switch out SIM cards and enter re-up pin number to activate phone, and should I take out (dual slots on phone) my 128GB SD card before I switch carriers? Delete anything and por same number?

Thank you for your help....
Fred J.

Your Tracfone might be SIM locked which would prevent it from accepting a Simple Mobile SIM until they unlock it.

Their policy:
  • Customers must request handset unlocking.
  • Customers must have had their locked device activated on TracFone service for no fewer than 12 months, redeemed air time cards in no fewer than 12 months, and not have had their telephone number recycled or ported.
  • Customers must request this interim unlocking solution while their service is active or within 60 days after their active service days expire. This 60-day grace period applies even if the customer's telephone number was recycled or ported.
  • Customers must currently own a TracFone branded handset model launched on TracFone's service after February 11, 2014 or activated with TracFone's service after February 11, 2015.
  • Customers must possess a handset that is in working condition.
  • Customers must possess a handset that is not reported stolen, lost, or associated with fraudulent activity.
  • If a customer requesting handset unlocking is deployed military personnel, upon provision of deployment papers, TracFone will honor that customer's unlocking request by sending a refund for the Trade-in Value of the used, locked phone returned by the customer without regard for the 12 months of service activation and air card redemption eligibility requirements. However, all other eligibility criteria apply to TracFone's customers who are deployed military personnel.
  • Customers are eligible for this program only once every twelve months.

TRACFONE Owned Brands

1) TRACFONE
2) NET10 WIRELESS
3) Straight Talk Wireless
4) SIMPLE Mobile
5) telcel
6) SafeLink WIRELESS
7) pageplus nationwide prepaid cellular
8) Total Wireless

TRACFONE-Brands.png

All of these wireless plans/brands will work on any TRACFONE branded locked phone and any unlocked GSM phone.

TRACFONE is the top of the top and all the other brands are underneath it, so all brands under TRACFONE will work in TRACFONE branded locked phones, but TRACFONE will not work in the ones under it.

Here is a few examples:
1) A SIMPLE Mobile Service SIM card will work in a TRACFONE branded phone, BUT the TRACFONE Service SIM card will not work in a SIMPLE Mobile branded phone... even though they are technically owned by the same company.

2) A NET10 Service SIM card will work in a TRACFONE branded phone, BUT the TRACFONE Service SIM card will not work in a NET10 branded phone... even though they are technically owned by the same company.

3) A NET10 Service SIM card will NOT work in a SIMPLE Mobile branded phone, NEITHER will a SIMPLE Mobile Service SIM card work in a NET10 branded phone... even though they are technically owned by the same company.

You can use a TRACFONE/NET10 SIM Card Kit to activate service on the other brands like SIMPLE Mobile, but it will be linked to SIMPLE Mobile and can only be used in a SIMPLE Mobile branded phone, or a TRACFONE branded phone, or any unlocked GSM phone.
Example:
If you use a TRACFONE/NET10 SIM Card Kit to activate service on Straight Talk, then that SIM card will only work in a Straight Talk branded phone, or a TRACFONE branded phone, or any unlocked GSM phone. It will not work in a SIMPLE Mobile branded locked phone.

Hope this helps clear up any questions you have about your TRACFONE and TRACFONE related services and devices.

Sources: I've already done all the leg work and tested each one individually. Accurate as of 2019

Ok, how about can I use an activated Simple Mobile SIM in a Total Wireless iPhone? I'm asking because I want to get my son an iphone and Total has an insanely low price on an XR.
