Trouble with Nexus 5 sim card recognisation

I recently bought my Nexus 5 and upon initial set up, didn't insert a sim card as one wasn't available at the time. However today i got my Giffgaff sim card and inserted it into the phone and restarted it. It reads "NO SIM CARD - EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY"

I've checked the sim card in my other phone and it works! Next I tried going on settings and entering the APN details manually but after saving all the details it doesn't show up on the APN menu at all

What do I do now?

No SIM card means that the phone isn't seeing the card. It could be dirt on the SIM card contacts, it could be a bent contact, it could be a broken contact ...

Contact the seller and ask for a replacement.
