Help Turn off notification l.e.d.'s

Does anyone know how to turn off the blinking notification L.E.D's on the Droid1? Specifically the red low battery , and the green one for missed calls, gmail, etc... I find that when the phone is in my pocket and the LED is blinking it kills my battery alot quicker. Sometimes I may not look at my phone for a few hours and I really want to shut it off. I hope someone can help, I've searched the threads but no luck!

If you're rooted, search for "LEDs Hack" on the Market.

Edit: Also, the battery drain could be due to background apps (perhaps the ones blinking the LED) more than the LED itself.
