Video codecs: why are .WMV, .MPEG, .MPG, .AVI, etc. impossible to watch?

Hi,

Why are .WMV, .MPEG, .MPG, .AVI, etc, impossible to watch? Have these codecs already been ported to Android, or not? I mean... can I download them somewhere (bundled with a program or not, )? .3gp is not the only format around!

i have the beta version of rock(divx) player and it works great.

I think that the Galaxy S phones can play all those formats natively. Not sure if that helps

Thanks for pointing this. However, I'm using an HTC Desire, and I can't find why the Galaxy S can play all these video formats.

Working great is a overstatement on my evo. The sound has volume and playback issues. At least it works.

That's already that. With Stream Media Player, I only get sound (but no images) for videos...

First of all, AVI isn't a codec. It's a file format and it's basically a wrapper (like MOV and some other formats out there). AVI's can contain any number of different codecs out there.

3gp is not the only format around!

It's also not the only option supported stock. There's MP4 as well.
