Ok, so my upgrade is due on april 7th and i have been looking at the galaxy s2. However i have always loved my original galaxy s and its been a great phone too me :p.

I have read that officially it will not be getting ICS 4.0, but apparently a 'slimmed down' version is being released for the galaxy S (read it somewhere cannot remember where though:thinking:). Has anyone heard of this?, and if so any ideas when it could be released?

I really want ICS but would rather stick with my trusty galaxy S to be honest.

Galaxy S do not get ICS at all. No slimmed down version either.
What they have got is some extra pack. like face unlock, but it still for gingerbread.

So the only way to get ICS is to use custom stuff, but if you want almost bug free and with no issue you still should use gingerbread.

    Ok thanks.

So do you know anything about what is to be included in this 'extra pack' apart from face unlock, will it have the ICS new type icons for messaging and notifications? and when it is to be released?

I am not sure what it was. I think it was some app only.

Might as well face the facts folks. Google always had boasted about how many mobiles it had activated. Millions to be sure. You're lucky to get one upgrade within Android as they continually push out new versions.

This year a new Samsung quad core mobile, that could "possibly" include Jellybean or Key Lime Pie could be making its world debut.

Now that could be very interesting.

Well its Samsung we talk about and to be true they have done a good job with the upgrade. No other phone has so many upgrade.
Even gingerbread was a bit surprised to me that they even did.
So we do have 3 generation of android to the phone.
To bad they did not make ICS for it to, for its no problem to run on it.
To be a 2 year old phone(soon) it is still very good and you can do most thing with it still.
This did make me not to buy SGS2. It is not that big upgrade.
I will buy a NOTE (2??)or the sgs3. I am not sure yet what it will be.

Yeah DamianGTO, it looks as if we SGS owners have been left behind, and I'm NOT happy about it.
I do love my SGS and I have ISC on my Asus Transformer Prime. I was really hoping we would get it. At first they said 'No', then they said 'Maybe', then they said they were coming out with some kind of 'pack' that was supposed to be some kind of an ICS Lite version, and I waited and waited for that,........but it NEVER came. Like I said, I'm not happy about the way that whole fiasco turned out.

Bottom line,.....we won't get it or anything like it UNLESS we go to 'rooting' our device and/or having to install some custom Rom. I don't want to have to do either. I just want(ed) to have my SGS firmware UPDATED to ICS.
So, even though I still love my SGS I'm not enthused about all these other devices coming out with even newer versions of firmware like JB or KLP.
I didn't think getting and ICS firmware update was going to be much of a problem, but apparently it seems it is. GRrrrrrrrrrrrrr !

Well you must face it.. the phone is old and it already got many updates. More then most phone do have.
The problem is that many people think as soon something new comes out that there phone also shall have it.
But the sgs1 is a great phone, but its old and you can only be happy that there are people that do stuff for it.
Also to root and use custom stuff on it make it a lot better then stock.
I not only talk about the looks. The performance is much better an much other things to.
Also ICS is very overrated. Still a phone with Gingerbread kick the ICS in most area.

So the bottom line is that if you want ICS you need to use custom stuff or buy a newer phone. SGS2 do have ICS...

Ok,....So has anyone out there completed the JW4 (Value Pack) FW upgrade ???

If so, please let us know all about your experience with it so far. Are you liking it? Is it worthwhile? Is it close to an ICS experience?

    Please share.

Not even close to an ics experience but it is nice to have a camera that can record and take pics while video recording. The face unlock is overated too. (blink detection) Anyway if you can upgrade I would do it strictly for the camera.
