Would you get a Fascinate right now?

Gotcha. I used to do the same thing and once my next upgrade comes around, i'll also be going with the 1 year contract.

Does Verizon still offer 1 year contract option? I think they said they are discontinuing early 1 year upgrade option and removing the new every two year discount beginning this February. It's probably due to their iPhone introduction. It's quite frustrating for me if they really do that. On top of that they will likely increase data plan charge for 4G which we don't know yet how good it will be.

My contract with vortex will end in spring next year and I will consider switching carrier depending on how things turn out with Verizon.

i believe its only the iphone that you cannot get a 1 year on...its full price or two year...but the annual upgrades for 2 year contracts are done

Yeah, they took out the early upgrades (being able to upgrade after 1 year on a 2 year contract) but you can still get a 1 year contract.

I am going to be getting a new phone soon and I'm pretty sure I made up my mind on the Fascinate. My question is that if you could buy the Fascinate right NOW would you? I don't care about 4G, so I'm not interested in either waiting for them to come or paying for the phones that are likely to be back up in the $300 range. I AM concerned about them taking so long to get FroYo on board, and I have no interest in rooting so that's one of the reasons I'm second guessing my decision now. The other phone I would consider would be the Droid 2, which ships with FroYo and has the keyboard. I like the look of the Fascinate better, and like the feel of the Galaxy S line as well, but I want to make sure it'll be worth getting. What do you, as experienced Fascinate users, think?

Well, I personally own an OG Droid and when my account came up for an upgrade I decided to wait. So I let my wife pick out a new phone and she decided to the Fascinate. The reason why she liked it was because of the skin. She doesnt use it for GPS, so the GPS doesnt bother her. She does not really use the internet to view flash videos, so having "froyo" was not a deal breaker. She played with the DX, D2, and DINC...and out of all of them she preferred the skin on the Fascinate. Performance wise it is similar to all of those minus the RAM...384, really couldnt put 512 in there like they did with the Vibrant/Captivate. Also, one thing that upset me was the 2 gb on board and 16 gb sd card. The other galaxy S phones have 16 gb on board, but like I said non of those things bothered my wife. So after having it since the 15th, she still loves it.

the fascinate has 512 mb of ram...its just tied to video...its only 384 available

Even though I recently traded my Fascinate for a DInc, I still recommend it to people. Was it right for me?: No. It seemed that no matter how many combinations of ROMs and kernels I flashed, I could never get the performance I needed. However, for many of my co-workers, friends and family members it gets the job done and then some, and I've even convinced 2 (3 if you count the trade) of them to get SFs. I will say that I miss the screen size and it's ability to work well in sunlight, but performance issues were the catalysts that drove me away from it. :o

That's the beauty of choosing though, we can each find the phone that suits us best. And if that phone happens to be the Fascinate, then more power to you! :D ;)

I upgraded from a Palm Pre Plus and LOVE THIS PHONE!
GET ONE! =)

I know I do not regret it at all especially after rooting it.

I'm not into programming, so I won't be rooting the phone. But it's great for my purposes, and I still prefer it to any available alternative.

Email is lousy, but then it is on all Android phones. I use the free K-9 email app and that takes care of things.

The screen is so much better than any other phone on the market. And I'm very happy with the mapping and gps function. My phone locks into my location almost immediately.

you don't need to know anything about programming to root it ;)

Lol Email, er GMail specifically works great for me :P

I appreciate everyone's responses. I've decided that I will get the phone, and I'll play with it a bit before I make a decision about rooting. I've come to trust you all enough that if I DO decide to root I know you'll help me out =)

Most definitely. Its a nice time to join SF too

dude .... my short answer is NO! I prob would not rebuy this phone if I knew all the bugs involved. But I really don't want to F around with rooting ... would just like a phone that works out like I want out of box. If you want to root it seems like it would be a great phone.

Not even $100... Walmart has them at $30 with a two year contract :) Unless you were referring to a one-year contract, in which case I have no idea the price.

I will prob end up rooting the phone but don't want to do it until my 30 days is up ... not 100% that I'm keeping the SF. Coming from the BB Curve its a "learning curve" lol ... sorry bad pun! I will prob end up rooting.

 I knew VZW.com lowered the price to $100, but $30?! Nice!! Thanks for the info!! I don't mind being on a 2 year contract. I typically take really good care of my phones and I'm not the type of person that needs a new one all the time, so 2 years is fine for me. Though at that price maybe I WILL see what it is for 1 year so in a year I have the option of upgrading to one of those new monsters that are coming out!

yeah fml! My 14 -day period ends tomorrow.. should i go return it????

Yeah, I tried calling and they said it was $49.99 with 2 year contract. That's still better than $100 at VZW.com, though.

Your call, but if you do stick around you know you got friends who can help you out and hook you up. And trust me the 2.2 experience is very nice. Flash on this SF is sweet

Yeah those are still nice prices. Price should no longer be an issue with the SF, just software updates
