gmail sync issues

For some reason lately if I delete or show a email as read it doesn't sync that to my online gmail. There has been times when it shows 4 unread emails on the phone (even though everything is read) and when I log into gmail it shows the 4 unread emails even if it was ones I deleted.

I tried clearing data from settings>Applications>manage applications>gmail. I have tried refreshing it and manually syncing it and it

this is just a shot in the dark, but check your IMAP settings in your gmail account. I could be wrong, but i believe the phone uses IMAP for the built in gmail client.

cbarth3, when you delete a message or archieve it from your phone does it still show unread or in your inbox when you log into gmail from a computer? Our Hero's use IMAP for sure and should have two way communication with gmail. I wish jeremylobaugh would tell us how he has advanced IMAP settings.... He is on to something!

Sometimes gMail doesn't sync correctly. Every two-three months it has a day or maybe two where it doesn't sync on time.

I have never enabled IMAP on my gmail acccount and gmail has always synced just fine. It didn't two days ago, but now it's back to normal. Sometimes, you just have to be patient.

You can always go to the gmail website (on your phone or PC) to get the latest state of your gmail mailbox.

Correct if i deleted or marked as read I could log into my gmail account and see the items deleted still sitting there and all showed unread.

I have since switched from fresh 2.1.1 to the stock 2.1 with a2sd support and I am not seeing it anymore.

Interesting...could this be something to do with root access and IMAP? I am new to Android but have been following this forum for a few days. I have seen comments on this "stock 2.1 with a2sd support" but am not sure if you need root access or not to flash? I do agree with the earlier post that Gmail is f'd up the past few days. When I open my stock email program vs. the Gmail program on my phone I get different results. Are you using the HTC email or the Gmail program? Also, if you would expand on the "stock 2.1 with a2sd support" I would really appreciate it. Does this mean you can have applications run from your sd card?

I have been experiencing this for the past 3 days and it's driving me absolutely nuts!! I have mine set-up thru the regular gmail account and not through the "mail" client. I have cleared history, cache, etc and nothing is fixing this. I keep having to "refresh" and everything then comes through fine. However, this should not be how i have to get email. Has anyone found a fix?
