Well I've finally had a problem crop up that I can't solve in my XTR 2.1.1:

This morning upon booting up my phone, a force close applet appeared just after the lock screen, "com.google.process.gapps can't start.. blah" and the force close button.

Everything seems to work fine, gmail, calendar etc. Just that annoying error message only when I reboot.

A search here found that same issue in many different devices, including the Droid, but with no solutions offered other than a reflash.

I'd like to know what caused it all of a sudden; this has been a very stable ROM.

I know that all I have to do to make the issue go away is flash my recovery image, but I don't want to do that before finding a solution to this for future reference.

I've never had that happen on reboot, only when I was trying to trim down the excess applications I did not want. Once you delete certain apps that are tied into the system then that error can pop up. Often as a result of that I have found that it breaks the Market. I'd make sure that works, because if it doesn't then it would definitely be easiest to reflash. So, think back and see if you didn't delete an app lately such as Calendar or Talk. Sometimes those have issues upon removal in certain roms. Other than that, I'm not sure. Computer type stuff can be complicated sometimes...

Thanks for responding, es0tericcha0s.

Market and all apps I use were working normally. The message came only on rebooting the device.

I keep a written list of all apps I've removed via Root Explorer and application manager.

"Talk" turned out to be the culprit, as I flashed the recovery image and then went down my list deleting apps and rebooting one at a time.. bingo, it was fine until I removed that one.

Needless to say, "Talk" stays now. ;)

Glad I could help man. Talk is one of the first things I get rid of, as I hate having extra apps I don't use. If you want to get rid of that app for good, remove via Titanium BackUp. If you don't have this app, it's pretty nice. Best part: it's free. Have a good one...

Wow, another great tip out of the depths of AF. ;) Great app!

Thanx a million, (carefully typing user name) es0tericcha0s.

Heh It looks like you deserve some help every once in awhile, you have a lot of "thanks". I don't always post a lot here because there isn't as much Eris stuff going on here as opposed to XDA, but I do like to lurk around and help where I can. As far as my screen name, my girlfriend bitches about it all the time lol. "I dunno why you used zeroes, it's stupid..." heh
