Was told I could get early upgrade...

So my wife has an LG Versa which is a piece of crap, to be nice about it. I called Verizon Customer Service last week before the X came out and convinced the rep to give me an early upgrade on my secondary line. Her upgrade is not until February, but since it's been over a year I figured I could get the upgrade.

Well since the X wasn't out yet, the rep said she'd note the account and call me back Thursday (the day the X came out) so she could process the early upgrade with the X. And of course, never got a call.

Went into a Verizon store AND called customer service yesterday and neither one has any idea what I'm talking about. The store couldn't find any notes and customer service said the only note she had was that I called for info about the Droid X, nothing about an early upgrade. So obviously, she wouldn't give it to me. And I was really nice every time I called and restrained myself from yelling at the rep last night.

In short my question is... how do I get the early upgrade I was promised? I've been a customer of VZW for a long time and I always pay on time. You'd think they'd help a brotha out.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Complaints? All are appreciated!

It is really difficult to get an early upgrade on a 2ndary line. I actually ended up buying the phone on ebay last time to get my BB curve, just so I didn't have to agree to a 2 year contract to get a new phone. This time, the X offer for a 1 yr contract was only $30 more than the 2yr contract, so I got an X w/ 1 yr.

I don't k now what to tell you. It is very hard to get an early upgrade on the second phone. They always do it for the primary line no problem.

the only way i know of getting an early upgrade without causing an ETF is if you are due for an upgrade before the end of the year. I read somewhere they are letting ya get a droid X if your contract runs out by the end of the year. I would assume you wouldn't get the NE2 discount... (which is why i waited till sunday to get mine...)... but thats what i read somewhere.

My bf has the versa also and wants to upgrade but his isn't due till april. He's content with waiting...

Yeah I had no problem getting an early upgrade on my line when the Dinc came out, but we've had this phone at VZW tech support more times then I can count and it's still doing a bunch of stupid crap. All they want to do is replace the phone or sell me a "certified pre-owned" phone. Now why the hell would I want a used phone?

It's easier to get that upgrade on the phone (#611) than in a store, from my experience. Remain calm on the phone and plead your case in a way that makes you look like a valuable asset to their company. Remind them, nicely, that you've been a faithful customer for a long time and that you've never had any major problems with their customer service. You do, however, expect them to honor what they tell you on the phone. They can do it.

I called to turn tethering on for my BlackBerry on 7/17 and was informed that they were going to give me an upgrade if i wanted it for being such a good customer. My official upgrade is not until November 2011. I do have 5 lines on my account but none of those are eligible for an upgrade until March 2011 at the earliest. I now have a Droid X arriving to my front door today.

Be respectful to the rep but stick to your guns. Remind them that you're just wanting them to make it right...to honor what they told you they would do. Good luck.

Have you considered getting a temporary solution for the time being? A lot of people on this forum are unloading their original moto droid or eris for like $150 to get the X. If you're tight on cash but still want to get a droid, maybe get one of these for now, and wait for prices to come down on the x.

How long are you locked into your contract for?

I had considering maybe buying a Moto Droid or Eris off eBay or something, but they're still like $200. If I'm gonna spend that kind of money it'd make more sense to just get the X for $200, you know, if I can convince them to do it. I'm just going to try calling again today and see if a different CSR will do it for me. Otherwise, I'm gonna end up having to buy one off eBay until she can actually get her upgrade in February.

And I had the Eris before my Dinc, and I ended up buying my Dinc off Craigslist because I couldn't find one anywhere. In fact, I'm STILL on a waiting list for it since June. Unfortunately, I ended up paying $500 for it, but my Eris was so freaking slow I couldn't deal. And then before my wife decided she wanted a Droid, I gave my Eris to my brother. If I'd known, I would've given it to her. This whole stupid thing is an ordeal. She originally wanted to wait til January to see if the iPhone came out but I convinced her that there's no way it's coming out yet. Maybe eventually, but not yet. There's a Verizon/iPhone rumor every freakin' month.

There is actually a chance the VZ iPhone comes out in January. If the AT&T contract was indeed a 5 year contract, that would mean 2011 would be the expiration. I feel your pain though

Even so, as far as myself, I'm sold on Android. Don't get me wrong, the iPhone is cool and can do some cool stuff... but until it's available on a better network, I won't even consider considering it let alone my wife. Great phone does not constitute crappy cell service :D

*sigh* Well my wife didn't want the pre-owned Droid or Eris and when I called again, the CSR last night left a note saying they could not do the upgrade, so nobody I talked to was going to do it.

I ended up paying full retail for the phone, and they didn't even have the audacity to not charge me for the protective case. Sons-a-bitches.

My wife better thank me... a lot.

I'm not surprised that they woudln't approve it. Sorry you had to pay full retail.

I cannot see spending that much money on a cell phone when they have rebates and NE2 deals going on. But that's just my opinion. My bf's phone is due for NE2 this coming april and eh doesn't want to wait that long but is okay with that.

I hope she likes her phone.

The only way I can justify it is that she's not as much of a technology snob as I am, so she can keep a phone for 3 years and not be antsy to get the newest one. Me, on the other hand, call every year to get mine. That may change with my Dinc, but doubtful. I'm sure by next February there will be something 100 times cooler.

EDIT: I just don't dig that I have to pay for an extra data plan now... Freakin' lame! And also the chances of her letting me play with her phone are slim to slim.
