Responsive Rom?

Hey Everyone, I'm an Evo user but I passed my Hero down to my wife.

I put the Fresh Hero 2.3.3 Rom on it for her when I gave it to her.

I am having some issues and hope some existing Hero users can lend me some advice. Current problem is while using fresh 2.3.3, there is extreme lag. Attempting to make a phone call can last for as many as 10 seconds before dialing actually occurs. Some apps are opening extremely slow and it is really aggravating my wife.

As an avid Android user I would really like to keep her on the Hero, but if I can't find a stable, responsive Rom to alleviate the Lag I fear she will go back to the Blackberry.

Can anyone recommend a Rom that is responsive and stable? Or clue me in to recent developments to improve Hero performance? (I haven't been following the Hero for some time now and only recently came back to Android when I purchased my Evo.)

PLEASE HELP, thanks!!!

Have you tried a complete wipe and re-flashing the ROM? I use Fresh 2.3.3 on my Hero and have had zero issues with it.

Any 2.1 based rom can have this dialer lag, it seems to vary phone to phone though. The most lag-free roms are aosp roms such as Darchdroid, check that out if you don't have the hots for Sense UI too bad.

unfortunately my wife likes sense.

I removed Dialer One, which helped a little. The stock dialer was slower on fresh 2.1.1 but seems faster on 2.3.3.

Well just to start off with it won’t matter much which rom you are using you need to flash a fixed over clocked kernel and get rid of setcpu (works great on OC kernels, just not stock Kernels), reason being that there is a lag inherent in using any program to set the clock because it has to wait for the phone to come from sleep to stock speed then it kicks in to adjust for the higher speed.
By using a fixed OC kernel you take out all those seconds because the phone goes from sleep to full speed in less than a second.
This only applies to using a stock kernel.
I hope this helps

ok i'm still getting into this whole rooting busines... i have a successfully rooted hero running darchstar 2.8 and diggin it, i've just started figuring out this rom business, so what exactly is the kernel? are they dependant on the roms? as in if i try to flash a new kernel on there, what are my chances that it won't work with whatever rom i'm running?
