The little things...(2.2 Update addons/changes)

battery heat:

my battery gets super hot real quick lately. will go from idle like 29 degrees C, and after 5-10 min of use, shoots up to 39 and is very warm. never happened with 2.1. only new app is chrome to phone. all the bloatware keeps loading, so im wondering if that garbage loading on there is using the batt so much that its making it warm before i can task kill it

also, my HTZC weather app isn't showing my town, it's saying "current location" when it ALWAYS showed the town. any thoughts?

A couple of things I've noticed (that haven't been mentioned).

The HTC Calendar app no longer includes the local "MyCalendar" calendar. I had a couple of apps that synched data to that calendar. They now synch to the PC Sync calendar instead.

Changing wallpapers now works. Previously, If I changed to a non-HTC static wallpaper, it would switch to the default wallpaper. I would need to reboot for the wallpaper to take effect. This seems to work now after the update (so far).

^This. I switch up the look of the wallpaper on occasion and it was always really annoying to have to reboot for it to take effect. Glad that was worked out.

I meant to reply to this one...

It's commonly advised that you avoid task killers as they don't really help much and ends up being a waste of time and sometimes your battery.

I stopped using task killers while on 2.1 and it improved my battery. Instead I used System Panel to monitor everything.

BUT

I do have something to add to your complaint though. Even though I don't use a task killer, every once in a while (very rare) I do kill a task that I know is sucking up juice...or needs to be closed down due to bugs. Just for kicks I tried to kill the bloat ware, My Verizon, City ID, VZNav... What I noticed was that not 20 seconds after I kill it, it pops right back up in my active list. I know that they are not running and using up resources, but I found it odd that it popped up so quickly after ending the task. Makes me think that it may be constantly performing some kind of action. I don't know, at this point I'm just back to my old ways and ignoring "active" apps and let the phone kill off what it needs to when it needs to on its own.

Yes - I have heard and read that many time. And yet - if I ignore them I find my battery gets sucked down in a matter of hours. If I kill them, my battery lasts 2 days with normal use. So - I'll stick with killing apps.

What I have done is idendtify the small handful of apps that I want to let run (or I have figured out must not be killed) and let them run, killing everything else. Seems like a nice balance right now.

Yes! I saw this too. If anyone discovers a way to set these apps to not auto start - please post it here.

i think the only way is to root guys.....ugh.

absolutely ridiculous; i think this is why my awake time is so damn high. i have my ATK set to auto kill every 30 minutes now. my awake time is so high due to skype mobile (i deleted it off 2.1 because i realized it was giving me 100% awake time, and now they FORCE it on us? wow)

***All****

There seems to be some concern/dispute over what is different between the NonRoot-RUU method vs. the Official OTA/Update.Zip method with regard to GMAIL.

Any enterprising Incredible users out there with either version of the update care to post screen shots of GMAIL?

If anyone needs to know how to do this, I will post up instructions, but they can also be found here:

i use the htc clock widget (the small one 1x2). i'm 99% sure that the time used to be centered. now it's right justified. so it looks a little hokey in the single-digit hours.

I use that same widget. Just checked and its left justified. I still haven't gotten the update, still on 2.1 (not going to root). Never noticed it wasn't centered till you just said that.

I too noticed that there were more than a few apps such as skype, stocks, swype, and several background apps that were never running in 2.1 System Panel. Other than that 2.2 has totally lived up to the hype. Flash 10.1 is amazing. Can't wait to get home and see if the video out feature quality has improved. I haven't made any calls, but that was never an issue for me. All my 3rd party apps seem to get along with froyo. I went to South Park central web page and was able to stream a full episode. Market apps dowloaded and installed at easily 2x the speed of 2.1. Even the large one's such as Speedx 3D were very fast. All I need now is Root, and this phone will be more Incredible than its' name..lol
