i had multiple blackberrys and iphones before my evo. now dont get me wrong i love my evo the customization and options the games everything, its awesome. i dont miss my iphone at all but i do miss the simple text and talk and bbm of the blackberry. has anyone thought about going back to their blackberry and keeping their evo as a side toy for all the apps and occasionally throwing the sim card back into it?

Absolutely not. If I wanted a side toy, I would get an iPad.

The only thing my BB did better than my Evo is the speed in which it synced my exchange emails. I also needed to flag certain emails as level1 messages based on a substring in the subject line so that I could assign an audible alert to them. This was for a company where I was in a customer support role, and needed to be able to respond to urgent issues ASAP. To date, only the BB can satisfy this need (level1 flag based on filtering criteria).

If I were still working for that company, I would begrudgingly carry my BB along with my primary phone, the Evo. I'd only use the BB if I heard it ring the urgent ringtone.

I see no other redeeming value in my BB that my Evo(or even my wife's iPhone) couldn't do better. Physical keyboard maybe. I was very against touchscreen typing. But now I realize it was because of the iPhone's dinky 3.5" screen that initially turned me off. I have no issues typing fast on my Evo. And now there's swype. No more pecking.

The only thing I really miss about my Blackberry is BBM, and even then, a lot of my old contacts have since moved to other phones, so the BBM isnt' as useful as it was anyway. The physical keyboard wasn't enough to keep me there. I'd go with an Epic if the keyboard meant that much to me.

If you go into Mail settings for the Exchange account and set it to receive mails "as they arrive", it is true push email. Unless you're go down to milliseconds, there is no difference in sync time between "as they arrive" and BES.

That is what i set mine at, but I do see lag often, usually 15-30 sec, but sometimes over a minute, where my outlook and my phone are not in sync. With BB, the delay was usually less than 3-5 seconds. Anyway, not a big deal to me anymore. I no longer need to respond instantly to complaining customers :)

Maybe there's a server or network issue on your side, because I don't have any lag like that. As a matter of fact, I didn't even think it was push email because I didn't have this feature on my WinMo phone, and you'd think the Android phone would have less features, not more.

Most of the users in my office are in Outlook cached mode, so the BB and Android users get their emails on their phone before they show up in Outlook. But I have a live connection and have done a lots of tests on this.

I have considered going back to WebOS, but definitely not my BB. While my BB was a solid phone - WebOS was easier, cleaner, and had a much better browser.

Don't mean to get off-topic - we're just kind of talking about different devices, what you would use instead of the Evo, etc.

I will definitely be going back to WebOS when the next device is out. Unfortunately Palm's QC was ridiculous. But their years of handheld software development truly show in comparison to Android.

My evo is pretty much my personal everyday device, and the Blackberry Torch is attached to my business line. I have had 2 lines for around six years now, and its not a burden to me at all. The evo is the perfect size for me, and is really not that much bigger then the iPhone 3Gs it has replaced.
