Root Other phone ROMs on a Droid...what happens?

So, my buddy is new to the whole root process and went about rooting his Droid and installing a custom ROM....but I think he's flashing a ROM for a different phone as the links he sent me were for a Nexus One ROM.

So..out of curriosity, if he flashes the ROM (I assume they're in update zips like the Droid) using Clockwork, whats happened (going to happen) to his phone? The only reason I ask if because I haven't gotten a text from him since he said he was gonna start messing with the ROM and he isn't answering his phone, so I assume the worst. Has he bricked his new toy or can I RSD him back to life?

I don't know the answer to some of your questions, but the short answer is that a Droid 1 is very difficult to permanently brick. He would have to have a series of bad things happen to truly be bricked.

Nope..if it were MY phone, I'd just RSD, hope for the best, and call it a night, but alas, I'm running SS4.7 without issue. We've all made mistakes...his just happens to be extra dumb.

I'd rather not waste his time and effort of bringing me his phone and get his hopes up of being able to fix his screw up. Otherwise, he just does an insurance claim and is out his 90 dollar stupidity penalty.

I don't know the answer to some of your questions, but the short answer is that a Droid 1 is very difficult to permanently brick. He would have to have a series of bad things happen to truly be bricked.

The phone will probably get stuck at the Moto Logo and never get off of it. You can still boot into recovery though and re-flash a Droid Rom or a backup. Other phones ROM's will not work no matter what you do.

Yep, each phone model has different hardware. I'm sure at User level things work fine, but that's the beauty of hardware abstraction. It's only when those low level kernel drivers start trying to talk to hardware is when things go badly, and usually very quickly. You didn't brick your phone, I'm sure of it, but you will have to dust off RSD or sbf_flash (depending on your platform).
