Root Baked Snacks 1.8

I know some people are probably not aware of this, but ...

Please support the dev and either join his website (www.bakedsnackshack.com) to get early releases or wait the extra few days for the public release. 1.8 isn't officially out yet and if you have it from XDA (or anywhere really) and you're not a member of Baked Snack Shack, you've screwed over a great developer. He gets all of the ROMs and kernels to the public quickly, so either donate a few bucks (he totally deserves it for all the work he puts in) or just wait while the people who did donate try it out.

Any link you see to download Baked Snack kernels and ROMs on XDA is NOT necessarily legit. Hero (the dev) stopped posting and supporting there because people are hijacking his pre-release stuff and he's rightly sick of it. Get the real stuff at www.bakedsnackshack.com please.

(I'm not affiliated with this dev and his group in any way, just want you guys to know this stuff.)

+1

I think sometimes we take for granted what these devs do for us. I'm guilty of it myself. We need to support the devs cause without them we would be at the mercy of the providers and manufacturers.

1.8 should be out soon so just be patient.

I just installed BS 1.8 (if you donate you get access sooner) unlike any other updates, even with a nandroid data restore it didn't restore my theme so I had to install my theme again. it also added sprint zone and brought all the stock apps I deleted. sprint tv, flicker, peep, twiter, news. I had to remove them again. I didn't give the kernel a chance, I switched it right away back to netchary. So far so good, I don't see any difference in 1.75 vs 1.8

This goes for all rom devs and app builders.

Let us know how it goes with 1.8 please

Hmm...I don't know what it is but if it's using the same kernel #6, it should be as smooth. But scrolling in the app drawer it isn't smooth. When I try to slow scroll its more noticeable. It's not bad but just not as smooth as 1.7. In some instance when I scroll either in app, contacts, or email, it stutters once in a while. You can really tell when it starts to slow down to a stop. I don't get this with 1.7. I had this same result when I tried it the first time. I'm wondering if my phone just doesn't like it. I'm have hardware 0003 with Epson screen if that makes a difference. Almost everyone in the Baked forum are reporting that it is just as smooth. So I guess the only way for you guys to tell is if you try it on yours. But I think for me the best it's gonna be is 1.7. Overall though its not so bad. I'm gonna keep it like this till tonight and see if it changes. I'll see what overclocking will do too.

i've got 1.75 runing right now, upgrading 1.7, and since I switched to 1.7 it won't run 4G. I get a connection, a registered IP, but no net connection. Speed test won't run when I hit begin test (acts like there is no connection), and the browser doesn't connect either or e-mail, so I assume it's not routing the 4G correctly. Anyone know why?

Ok, 1.8 didn't make it through the evening. Everything seemed fine until I tried to download apps from the Market. App download would never start or would appear to start and then stick at "Starting download". Tried 3G and WiFi. Other data related operations worked fine.

I flashed back to Fresh 3.3.0.1 before bed.

Oh and I have the 2.15.00.09.01 baseband and the 1.77_003 PRI

Hey I was wondering about what time were you trying to download from the market? I had 1.7 last night which never had any issue but around 8pm PST I tried downloading an app from market and it would do exactly what you described. I even rebooted the phone. After about 10pm it kicked in. Tried another app this morning and its working fine now. I think maybe an issue with the Market?

Also I've never had issue with Market on 1.8. I tried 1.8 when it came out and again yesterday afternoon.

Sounds like you need to do a complete wipe and reflash the rom.

It would have been between 7:30pm and approx 10pm EST.

I may give it another try later on today. My battery life seems to be better with Fresh though so I may just stick with this for awhile.

This isn't directly related to the ROM. I was on Baked Snack for a while and am now on VirusROM.

Fire up Google Talk and log in - that will allow you to authenticate against the Market, and your download should start immediately thereafter.

I haven't fully researched the why's behind this behavior - but the above is a confirmed workaround and not ROM-specific.
