What features do you want on the Evo 2?

In a year it won't be perfection, it will be beautiful but underpowered.

My hope is for an ALL white version. Dual Core Snapdragon, Super AMOLED + higher resolution, better battery life, gig of RAM, 16gb internal storage, no fps cap of course, better hd camcorder, LED notification light that can change to multiple colors and stays on past five minutes, power button that sticks out more and is in the middle(or better yet on the side), and hard camera button.

Course I'm really just asking if we think there will actually be an EVO 2 at all.

I have a phone with the power button located on the side. It is NOT good. It gets in the way so many times. I am always accidentally hitting it.

Alan:

Assuming no breakthroughs in battery technology are in the pipeline, the battery would need to be about 2-3x the size of the current battery.

I wonder if they could learn some techniques from apple ... If you've seen the tear downs the interior of the iphone is largely taken up by battery.

I think I see what u saying: a longer battery? That way extended batteries wont have to add much more thickness.

I see it with the Droid 2800 mAh and the Eris, Inc 3500 mAh. The Eris, Inc battery is thinner cuz its longer.

I'd like to have a phone that is powered by sound waves.

Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University Power Harvesting Research Could Bring about Next Generation of Electronics

Imagine a self-powering cell phone that never needs to be charged because it converts sound waves produced by the user into the energy it needs to keep running. It’s not as fa-fetched as it may seem thanks to the recent work of Tahir Cagin, a professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University.

WOW! That's incredible!

Now the only issue is the feasibility of having the other person's voice power your phone... not really possible since the phone must power its own speaker to emit the other person's voice, then it would have to capture its own soundwaves in order to power itself to produce more soundwaves

The reason I bring that up, it because after I wrote my idea, I wondered what would happen if you had a very talkative girlfriend on the other line? The occasional passive "uh huh" or "that's great" would hardly be enough to power the continued use IMO. Not to be sexist or anything  but everyone would need a secondary power source for when they get calls from 'that' girl.

Edit: Another thought, maybe that's not such a bad idea... if the person on the other end kills your phone, then maybe it was time for the conversation to end anyway...:p

By the time a phone is released to the public, it's replacement is already in development.

They may not call it the EVO...but the next one is surely in development already.

Perhaps, they will release a sliding keyboard model...then later, another one without keyboard to match the EVO.

If I could get an EVO with a slide out keyboard that feels as solid as the Motorola DROID's keyboard, that would be tempting. I handled the Samsung Epic, and was not impressed with the sloppy springy keyboard. I really like the way the Motorola DROID keyboard slides out.

Neither mine or my friends epic have sloppy keyboards. There solid.

Agree!
I love my Epic and my Evo.
I use my Epic as my personal device though.
Imagine an unibody and much sleeker Evo with a Z hinge. That would be nice wouldn't it? Take the same front facing camera as the Epic since it's better. Give it a faster processor. Be nice if it was dual or Tegra 2.
Whatever the successor is to the Evo for Sprint, I hope it is better in every way. Not just internals but overall design.
I also hope by then we can have a look at gingerbread

I am not sure you are interpreting "sloppy" correctly when I use it.

The keyboards do snap into position nicely, but they are spring loaded...so a partial push in either direction without going all the way will cause the keyboard to spring back to the original position.

So if the keyboard is closed, and you want to open it...you can push it half an inch or so without the spring catching...and if you stop pushing, it springs back to closed.

You have to push past a threshold for the keyboard to snap all the way open (or closed). That's what I don't like.

Try opening an original Motorola DROID keyboard, and you'll see a world of difference. It takes more force to start the movement, and there are no springs involved. If you stop opening the keyboard after half an inch, it stays in that position. If you go an inch, it stays there. There are no springs involved like with the Epic.

In short, I agree with this. The droid sliding mechanism, being that it uses ball bearings in an aluminium track in favor of springs on a hinge, is superior to any other phone that ive seen or tried. If you like your phone flipping open randomly through the day, because you might just have a text message to respond to anyways, then a spring loaded slider is right for you.

I, however, disliked that on my Moment and the Epics I've tried. Its loose, sloppy, and it wiggles if you push on the screen. The droid is much more solid, because the slider can keep itself shut under normal use.

Despite some qc issues early on in production, and with a number of evo's I think its a well executed phone.

Throw in an amoled screen, a faster CPU, better battery life, and more memory and I think it'll be a winner. Physical keyboards are old news. Swipe on-screen keyboards, like swype and ultra, really make you forget and loathe any kind of actual "typing".... LOL.

Was hoping this thread was more about what will make us excited about our EVO again. This may be more of an Android question than an EVO question. For me I would like to see....

1. Netflix (supposedly they are working on it)
2. Some other EASY to use low cost movie solution. (HELLO HULU!)
3. A solution to make it a GREAT (not just mildly acceptable) alternative to IPOD users. (Hoping Google creates a music store and makes an app that can play unproected (no DRM) music.

If either one of these things happen it will put a bullet or two MORE into the Apple market share.

On the hardware side there will be changes and things will get better for everyone regardless of platform. However, this battle will be decided by Apps.

That doesn't make it sloppy smh lol...
Just means you need to open it yourself and not expect a simple tud to open it for you. That's a personal opinion and what you expect it to do.
That doesn't make it sloppy in whatever way you mean it. Maybe to your personal liking but in general it can be the best made or the worst made. I'm sorry you feel that way, but it's just right for me and I look for quality in everything. So sloppy is the wrong word.
Also when a person has to push it up completely themslevs is actually better. One reason why is because overtime if the keyboard was to open the way you wanted it to just with a little push, then the pop would be a ware and tare in the long run. That's strain on the device. Any and everything get's old do to ware and tare. So having to push it up yourself reduces the stress from the pop.
Another awesome design is the G2, but I'm sure you may have already read and seen that some G2's are having the screen hang and slide if you hold it upside down. Not saying this is the reason but you see how fast and hard that screen pops when you push it? Looks awesome right? But imagine that in the long run? Could be the reason why some of these phones are already doing that or just a simple flaw in the design.
I'm just saying though. I think you should choose another word other then sloppy, cause sloppy is not a pretty word at all. It simply just doesn't aprove of your liking. I can tell that by reading what you say. Your saying what you wish or want it to do rather then having a reason that is a actual issue to how it may function.
From a opinion point I hear you but I don't agree because for me it's awesome.

So, I've read this whole thread and the thought crossed my mind... you've got all this great hardware lined up but where's the kickback for the ladies?

If it could have some spring loaded anti-rust coated aluminum arms for dishes (think Inspector Gadget) - I'd be in without a doubt! I even believe some of you guys would go for that.
