Upgrading to Epic

I'll be upgrading to the Epic in ten days from my rooted HTC Hero and have a few questions as I go about the process. Sorry if they've been asked elsewhere already.

1. Is there an easy way, other than just writing a list, to produce a list of the apps on my Hero for me to install on the Epic. I will be trading in my Hero so just referring to that isn't an option.

2. Is it worth rooting the Epic? I know this could go in the Root Forum, but I'm looking for general opinion, not just that of root fans.

3. Any issues other than the GPS being wonky that I should worry about?

4. Are there any apps that I need to help the Epic run/perform it's best or just to really show off it's abilities?

1) if you currently have an app that does app backups, you can use it on the epic, just make sure it's compatible with the epic (one trick is search for it in the market on the epic itself).

2) i'm not rooted. but it's your choice depending on what you want out of it.

3) with the last update, the only major is GPS being unstable (seems to work for me occasionally without the needed work around cold start). there are of course the minor nuisance, but that will be there for any device of this caliber.

4) i'm using juice defender and quick settings with quick battery widget, but again, that's personal preference. i do have live wallpaper enable, i just can't help it with this screen.

you won't regret it, no matter what plans you have for the epic.

1- I believe app brain will produce a list of your apps and provide a easy way to re-download them all.

2- Depends what you want to do. ;D

3- My GPS isn't as good as on my pre or hero, but I'm not sure it's quite the (general) issue it's made out to be.

4- The epic really is pretty stinkin' good out of the box (except for battery life, which DI18 seems to have improved quite a bit for me).

Only thing I don't like about AppBrain is if you install that from the Market on your new phone, it installs them as unknown authors, so you can only update them through AppBrain. I used AppBrain when I swapped the Evo for the Epic and I just looked at my list on AppBrain and downloaded them manually from the Market so they would show updates in both the AppBrain app and the Market.

I'd agree with the posts here that the Epic is awesome out of the box - doesn't really need any apps to help it perform better. If you want to show it off - the DLNA app "AllShare" is pretty awesome to stream media from your phone to your xbox, PS3, media center PC or whatever network media player you have. Also, I've found that Divx ripped movies are excellent - especially when you have a good pair of headphones and turn on the 5.1 channel sound. H o l y C r a p. You will be amazed
