What are you looking for that the stock alarm doesn't offer? That is all I use and have no problems.

Gentle Alarm. I use it every week day. The fade in alarm is the best I have found.

+1 for Gentle Alarm. It's got a TON of options, and the developer is dedicated and responsive.

I used the HTC Sense one that comes with the Desire. This is because it's reliable. Two others from the market I tried failed to go off.

What are you looking for that the stock alarm doesn't offer?

One "feature" I don't like with the HTC Sense alarm is the fact it loops any MP3 you give it after about 20 seconds.

I like to have a very chilled out piece of music for my morning alarm but it turns out listening to the same sample looped every 20 seconds is far from chilled out!

AppAlarm Pro is by far the best. I wake up to Pandora every day, but you can launch whatever app you want (Music, Slacker, etc). There is a free version also, but you have to enable your alarm everyday with the free version.

AppAlarm Pro is good, but I rather Zazu myself.
