13g of data used after 3 weeks

so annoying this just stay in the general so we can talk about it...now its dead thanks guys....lamee

i know. i once authored a threat that was good enough to make a sticky, and someone decided to merge it with a thread that wasnt even really related. it all got lost, and the discussion totally died. i was irritated.

plus, i dont even see how this is related to support or troubleshooting.

Agreed. Moderation on this forum is pretty bad. Way too much interference with threads.

To the OP....i hope verizon catches on to your usage. That's just asking for trouble. I thought I was a heavy user with 4-6 gb/month with some tethering

The staff here care about this place and we are all volunteers. Personally, I put hours and hours into this place. Generally, the comments are favorable and folks express their appreciation for our work as it keeps this very busy place orgnized. Sometimes, however, we make mistakes and move or merge incorrectly. We're human. In my case, I'm up until 2 or 3 am doing this stuff and personally, the tendency is toward error. I apologize for that.

If we make mistakes or if you disagree with any of our decisions, please feel free to PM a guide or a mod and we'll earnestly look into your concern. I will say that the staff responds better to kindness than to judgement when we receive comments and PMs, however.

Thank you.

Steven

Well guys, mistakes happen as I'm sure was the case with moving this thread to the Support/Troubleshooting forum!

The ironic thing is that ANYONE in the past 9 hours could have reported this thread and said "Not sure why it's in support/troubleshooting. Please move to General." and a Moderator WOULD have moved it back to General!!! :D

That being said... I'm not sure why it's in support/troubleshooting so back to the general section it goes!!!

To the poster who thinks we intervene to much - That's kind of a funny thing. If I could show you how many threads we have to move that are OBVIOUSLY in the wrong place (think Evo threads in the X forum) you would be amazed! The rules are in place as well, but once again we have to enforce the rules because people think they are there for show-and-tell only. If you feel YOU have something to bring to the table or an idea that will help the site as a whole, feel free to PM the admin of the site and let him know why YOU would be better at the job (or why you think things should be done differently or what would help the flow of the forums or ...). Trust me when I say that they do read and consider EVERY suggestion!

Regardless, at the end of the day, if we DO do our jobs as directed by the OWNER of the site or a mistake is made on one thread then we "interfere too much" but if we miss a thread or don't see a violation of the rules then we "don't do enough." Kind of a catch 22. 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

13GB is insane. Before I got my Droid I used my iPhone to tether with my iPad a lot while I was at work. Granted I wasnt watching Netflix or anything, but I was browsing the net a lot, downloading and uploading with Goodreader and watching Youtube videos. I think the most I ever tacked on to a normal monthly bill was an extra 1.5GB.

First off thanks for putting it back here, i never asked because i figured they wouldnt have. I know you guys work hard trying to keep it organized especially you steven. And yes i see how many dumb things you have to move...on the other hand i think people just put it in general because very few people look at the other. But it has to stay organized so ya....

I am a pretty heavy user- an hour a day of browsing, an houror more of pandora and gps simultaneously, 3 email accounts push, 2 with calendars and contacts, a browse of the market and updates, tikl for PTT with Android friends, twitter and facebook updates, Pulse and express news for news updates, weatherbug.. etc.
I usually float around 2gb. Occasional tethering, but not heavy or extended.

13gb is unreal! Does that poker site have flash ads running constantly? Voice chat always open? Video? -- if not-- it is likely doing more than just playing poker on your computer!

Back to the data thing... i would hope if they tried to charge me anything they would say something first because i do pay for UNLIMITED data.

you pay for unlimited data for your phone, not tethering. they charge extra for tethering because they know that unlimited data to a handheld device, and unlimited data to and THRU the device are two totally different things.
anyone who wants to argue differently, i think this thread proves what i'm saying.
the user who detailed his heavy use a couple posts above says he hovers around 2GB. the tethered user uses more than 6 TIMES that amount.
i could understand that argument if they didnt have a 5GB tethering plan for $30 or a 2GB hotspot plan for $20, but they do (for obvious reason).
i'm not trying to flame. and i'm not going to say i havent used wireless tether (or PDANet when i had an iPhone), but it's stealing. plain and simple. circumventing a service they provide at a nominal fee, and using that service without paying for it... it's stealing. and, it's one thing to fire up wireless tether when you're away from home, and you absolutely need internet access on your laptop, but imho, using your phone as your sole internet connection is just wrong. and, it's not the company you're hurting, it's other users on the network. because of data hogs, we all get slower speeds, and we will pay higher costs in the future, as well as lose the luxury of being able to use data without worrying about going over a fixed allotment.

I dont see it as stealing i pay verizon over 200 every month...and guess what... they are still getting RICH as hell from everyone with what they charge...thats the only way i look at it....

They are getting rich providing you a service you and millions of others are willing to pay for. They invested billions to build the network required to provide the service. You are using the service in a manner SPECIFICALLY prohibited by your terms of service. Although there is nothing in those terms allowing them to charge you for your mis-use, they have every right to cancel your service.

You do not have home home internet either because you can't afford to pay for it, it is not available, or because you have found a way to steal it from your cellular provider.

I just hope abuse like this does not lead to further restrictions or increased pricing for the rest of the users.

^ I do. Just because you can run an end-around the established system via rooting and tethering apps doenst make it your right. Im rooted and ROMed but havent tethered once. I pay for my phone service as well as home service and the comments made by Sund0wn are 100% spot on IMO.

Do as you like but dont come pitching a bitch when VZ gigs you hard. They are greedy SOBs and will come after you when you start retuning pings on their radar.
