• After 15+ years, we've made a big change: Android Forums is now Early Bird Club. Learn more here.

I'm just gonna go ahead and ask it (NSFW)

While I really don't wish to spoil anyone's fun it is against the rules to post links to adult material and that would include listing out site names.

Feel free to discuss the topic, but keep in mind that this is a family friendly forum.

"Family friendly" forum?!! With all due respect..gimme a break! With the kind of language allowed on these forums and you're ponying up about a little porn talk? Talk about being hypocritical to say the least...cracks me up

First, comments of this nature are best left to the suggestion & feedback forum or via PM.

Second, if you have an issue with something on the forum you can simply report it. As far as family friendly goes, take a moment to read the rules of the forum. We do try to keep things on a PG or PG-13 level and safe for people to browse at work. While this can't be achieved 100% of the time we do make an attempt.

Last, throwing "with all due respect" at the beginning of your comment doesn't really take away from saying that I'm being hypocritical. While you may find a few four letter words equal to porn links and nudity I can assure you that most parents and employers do not.

^^ that kind of typifies what I'm saying..f this our f that means nothing..but throw a little porn out there & its nellie bar the doors. I won't say any more on that but that's typical..& I disagrees with your opinion on what most parents would think..but this discussion need not be in a forum such as this, so rant over.

Being a parent of 3 kids (9-18), I can assure you that four-letter words are equally as offensive as porn-links on a board that represents itself as "family-friendly". Monitoring web usage... its a lot easier to see them clicking on a link to a porn site, than it is to notice them reading words on a forum.

I'm certainly not trying to start anything with you, but I just took issue with that particular statement.

Damn, I resurrected this thread so we could all have a good laugh, as I think this thread is the most humorous one I've encountered while here. With all tension from no official froyo I figured we could all use a little relief. And just so you know, OfTheDamned, this thread is over 3months old, so those links were sitting there forever. I think if any damage to a family friendly forum was done it happened a long time ago. Were the rules just not enforced back in August? Anyway, best thread ever.

Well, don't take my comment as meaning I'm a prude. Me, Bing.com and their video search are good friends. I got a thing for Asians. ;)

Reminds me of seeing jaywalkers every day downtown. Most brag about doing it all their lives. ;)

The rules here (or in the crosswalks) should not have to be "enforced," they're mostly just common sense little sayings in the user guide for the site (http://androidforums.com/introductions/704-site-rules-guidelines.html).

It was pretty nice of the Moderator to leave this thread unlocked, despite it's OP subject matter (whether it's for "laughs" or not).

I feel like moving it to the Lounge, as it has morphed into not much at all about the Samsung Captivate. ;)

I never said that any of it means nothing and nobody has bared any doors as the thread is still open. I'm not exactly sure where your issue lies with this as I don't see where you have reported a single post on this forum for bad language or anything else. If you've just chosen this moment to rail against authority then I'm sorry, but you've picked the wrong person. I don't own the site or make forum policy, I just moderate it according to the rules and guidelines presented to me and every other member.

As I said before and will say a thousand times over, if you have a problem with a post or poster then report it. There are hundreds of thousands of members on this forum and only a few volunteer staff members by comparison. While we can make an attempt to be everywhere and read everything, it simply is not possible. This is the very reason that the report button exists.

You can disagree with me all you want, but I don't think you'll find too many people that will be as offended by a person dropping the f bomb in a forum post as you will when the act itself is being played out in graphic detail via HD video on a 24" monitor in front of a 5 year old or a persons boss. You also won't find nearly as many company web filters that will block a site with a 4 letter word on a page as you will when links to pornographic material are found all over the place.

Being a parent of 3 kids (9-18), I can assure you that four-letter words are equally as offensive as porn-links on a board that represents itself as "family-friendly". While I can appreciate what you are saying and do see where you are going with it I'll direct you to what I said above. We do try to keep things as family friendly as possible here. We don't allow links to porn (actually in the rules) and we do try to curb the language to a point, but it can be rather difficult. If you see anything that you have a problem with, report it. I'm not saying that every post will be edited, but we can at least see where a problem is.

The reason that this thread was even addressed had to do with the fact that it was reported. Once I read the report and the content I came in to edit it. The rules always apply and I would have normally handed out infractions for violating the rules if the thread had not been as old as it was. As far the rules being enforced, they are all the time. However, as I said before we can only be in so many places at once. In a perfect world we would know about things as soon as they happen, but then again in a perfect world people would read all the rules and abide by them so links to porn wouldn't be posted on a forum about cell phones in the first place. ;)

Like I said though, I was not trying to stop anyones discussion of the subject or curb anyones humor about the thread. I simply wanted to remind people that we do want to keep everything family/work friendly and not to post links to adult material.

In this thread a significant number of words appear as stars. I assume that is some feature of the forum attempting to protect my delicate eyes from seeing naughty words.

I can't find a way to turn it off so I can see this thread "unprotected".

As an alternative to using a screen protector, you could put a protector on, um, your tool. :) Either way, the device in one of your hands should have a protector.

To clarify: what my issue is, is that you took issue with porn being a subject matter, but I've never seen any issue with foul language. On a personal note, I don't care about foul language, or porn..just the hypocritical nature of having a problem with either/or. To be honest with all the violence on tv, viagra ads and the like...exposure to porn or f bombs is meaningless to our youth today anyway..

P.S. thanks for the site suggestions to all here!

Just to clarify, we do try to edit out the foul language, especially f-bombs. And as OTD said, we are only here to enforce the rules, if you really want it to change (which I know you probably don't), you can always contact the owner or post it in the suggestions/feedback forum.

And also, I believe that seeing graphic nudity (especially porn) is much more traumatizing than reading a little foul language here and there. I don't know where you live, but I've never seen this kind of stuff in ads on TV when kids are watching. ;)

I agree with the premise that there is more violence, foul talk and nudity on television than ever before, however I reject the conclusion that it's now "meaningless" for our youth to see stuff like that. Especially porn or gore.

Also, just because a thread is "dead" doesn't mean people don't read it, especially when the topic is porn. ;)

Oh, and here's the quote about language in the rules:
Strong Language: Language is fine to a common sense degree. Say what you gotta say, how ya gotta say it, when it's in a positive or neutral tone. If someone expresses offense to terms you're using, please respect them enough to at the very least NOT respond with

Nudity traumatizes you? lol wtf?

Anyways, nudity is all over the TV (and elsewhere.. magazines, etc.) in Europe (for kids to see).. it's America and Canada that is all uptight about nudity and porn.

Ahhh, I understand now. You are under the misconception that I personally have taken issue with anything in this thread or that I personally have made some rule or policy on the subject of pornography on this forum. This is not the case as I am only enforcing the rules set forth by the owner and admin of the forum. In other words, I am simply doing what is asked of me by the people that make the rules and pay the bills here.

From the Site Rules/Guidelines:
Do not post the following, or links to (including but not limited to): Porn, Drugs, Hate, Terrorism or anything else you imagine should be listed here. People can do what they want elsewhere, but we're not looking to provide direction to these things.

You can read the rest of the rules/guidelines via the link provided. These happen to be the same rules that you and every other member here agreed to when joining the forum. BTW, they do address foul language, as DaSchmarotzer pointed out, and what is or isn't appropriate on the forum. If you still find it hypocritical then you are welcome to start your own thread discussing the issue in the Suggestion Box & Feedback forum.
