Help Battery lasts 4 hours, no isht!!!

Daughter's BF has a new evo. Sprint mailed it out last week. It literally dies in 4 hours of a full charge. so obviously he's charging it multiple times daily. This has happened from day 1.

Hell, I traded his 1500 stock battery with my inc's 1750 sedio and it's only lasting a couple minutes longer. His stock 1500 is running in my incredible just fine. I'm at 90% 3 hours later...

So, chances are, this is a hardware issue? Will sprint exchange it for a new one at the store? Or will he have to go through the mail? Also, will the exchange be a new one?

PS: 3g area, all 4g is off. and all syncs are off w' exception of facebook and gmail.

I don't want to patronize you since you obviously already know enough about android, but I'll run through some of the basics just in case:

1) Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> Battery -> Battery use. You have to actually tap on an entry to see the time used. The percentage only means how much of the battery was used while it was running; it's a bit misleading. What you're mostly interested in here is "Time wihout a signal" under "Cell standby". If it's anything over 0%, and especially a really high number, that means you've been searching for a signal, which kills the battery fast.

2) Install Spare Parts and check "Partial wake usage" since last unplugged after leaving the phone running from a full charge to when it's close to dying without rebooting at any time in between. While you're at it, check cpu usage and network usage to see if anything you didn't expect is running a lot.

3) Install OS monitor to see in real time what is using the CPU.

You can also try something along these lines:

Drain battery all the way down
Turn the phone off
Charge the phone all the way up and leave it for 1 hour + after it says it's full
Unplug the phone and plug it back in again until the light turns green again
Turn the phone on and plug it in again until it turns green if it's not at 100%

It's debatable as to whether or not that sort of thing actually does anything since we're not using old battery tech anymore, but it's worth a shot.

EDIT: Also, if it was a hardware issue, it's more likely that it would be a bad battery, but you said you already tried a different battery. It's not impossible that it's a hardware issue, it's just that the more common point of failure would be the battery.

+100 thanks! That was about the most detailed reply ever! I really appreciate it. My daughter's bf is pulling his hair out. The first thing I did was uninstall ATK, and installed system panel. Problem is, I really haven't had more than 10 or 15 minutes to mess with the evo. I only see it when they stop to get kids.

But anyways, thanks a ton for your assistance. The tips you gave could be similarly related to the incredible. (of which I get great (well, decent) life out of)

Ah, yes, I forgot to mention not to use a task killer...but you already know that . Good luck, I hope you find out the problem.
