Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

And for those who will use wallet this might be a handy app as well.

I do have paypass around me! Got my 10 bucks too. Thanks again. You are in answer mode tonight. Might have to start a collection to get you something nice. Not a phone though, that's already been done. :-D

lol! All of y'all talking about this makes me want to go to VZ and compare mine now. Although I've been on amoled for so long so I feel I've got a good grasp on some of the tradeoffs for the tech.

Are you seeing grays at very low brightness only jmar?

I am guessing it' only on the auto brightness. I see s kinda greyish look/pattern when set on that and it's at low brightness. You can kinda tell it's just something with the AMOLED tech mostly though as it goes away if you jack the brightness up. Actually kinda wish mine had the auto brightness biased a little higher than it is. It looks awesome at high brightness, but in normal indoor lighting on auto I do see a greyish pattern in white backgrounds.

It really does just look like an weak point of AMOLED tech when the pixels aren't pushing out much light rather than a flaw with my display. My take is that it's caused because each pixel group doesn't have QUITE exact brightness and light output so you get some areas that are a TINY bit more white/brighter than others and it creates a kind gray/white pattern. As the brightness setting increases this anomaly seems to go away and everything just looks flat white. My display does tend toward a pretty DIM setting on Auto though and I am looking forward to some customization to tweak that so I still get auto brightness, but with a bit brighter bias.

Nice explanation thanks. I agree. I want to make sure I have the brightest GN around so I might go compare at the store on 100% settings for giggles :p.

Are you rooted? If so you can flash this ROM which has a mod (2nd post credit to user he_stheone64) which tweaks the auto setting slightly brighter and has an advanced power menu.

paulobrien of Team Modaco has made some nice tweaks to auto brightness as well, but they are not for our lte yet that I can see (only for ITL41F image not our ICL53F). Shouldn't be too long till they make it available for ours hopefully.

I just tested this too. I had it on auto brightness and the whites looked gray but then I took it off and turned the brightness all the way up and the white was almost blindingly bright.

I really miss being able to swipe down on my status bar to select and turn on wifi, bluetooth, GPS etc. but I have found a workaround. Anyone ever heard of bar control?

NM, I figured out that the settings is there after all. I just didn't recognize it.

I replied once, but think you might have missed it. I love this feature in CM and got so used to it I miss it. Widgetsoid in market can net you what you want I think. Here's what it looks like courtesy of andy2na over @ xda. It's not quite the same as CM's, but as close as we can get at the moment afaik.

EDIT: and the hex code for ICS blue is here in case you try it and want it to match (courtesy of cosmicbb)

Thinking about trying out Nova Launcher to get the extra row of app space. Anyone else tried it out?

I've got it, definitely nice to recover that area of the screen's real estate. Seems to be just as smooth as ICS. Widgets aren't really in their own drawer now.. it's the old style. Still debating if I like that or not.

Overall, very nice launcher and plays very well with ICS.

Hi Guys, New to the site. Picked up a Galaxy Nexus from VZW on the day it became available. So far loving the phone. I have a question that I can't get a straight answer and hoping you can help.

There are 5 icons on the screen, left of the homepage. I was told the 4th from left, the two circular arrows are screen tilt lock (looks like a sync icon). I have played with it and can't get it to lock the screen in portrait mode (nor to stop sync).

The 5 homepage icons on Galaxy Nexus starting from left should be:
WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Tilt Lock, Display Brightness
but the tilt lock doesn't do anything, unless it's for something else. What's it for? Thanks.

That's" Auto Sync"...whoever told you otherwise is WRONG...it allows you to toggle on/off auto sync to your specified Apps...Facebook, Gmail etc...
