Help Microsoft Hotmail sync issues

Has anyone had any issues yet with your hotmail acct on the Evo 4G lte?

This is for those that have set up a push account on the phone.

I set up a total of 3 accts: two with hotmail addresses and one with a msn address. The two hotmail accts often fall out of sync with the message "sync is currently expirencing problems and will be back shortly".

I'm also finding that I cant send mail from any of the hotmail accts.

There seems to be somekind of issue with just the hotmail.com accts vs the msn.com. The hotmail accts wont sync and wont allow me to send email.

Anyone else having these issues?

I don't know if this will help, but because I had a feature problem with setting up my Hotmail account, I chose to add my Hotmail account as a "POP3/Other" and not set it up via the direct Hotmail selection that's available when you wish to add a new account.

Going the route of "POP2/Other" doesn't allow for push mail; instead, you'd have to choose every 5 minutes as the quickest way. Is it as "good" as push? Not quite; however, you will definitely avoid synching problems. I've had none. My Hotmail account syncs with no issues whatsoever. In fact, I find setting up a Hotmail account as a "POP3/Other" to be better, with the sole exception of push not available. I'm content with the 5 minutes option.

I don't have the evo lte yet, but I setup hotmail on OG evo as an exchange account. It works great and syncs email, contacts, and calendar perfectly.

I've had my account since about 1997 and have no problems with it. It would be a pain in the tail to switch to a new account especially when I have so many contacts. Plus I like the layout of Hotmail better than Gmail or Yahoo mail.

Yahoo is the WORST for receiving attachments. Whenever I send attachments, especially pictures, to someone with a Yahoo Email account, it often takes hours, sometimes up to a day, for them to receive them. I've got numerous friends and relatives who all experience this problem with their Yahoo accounts.

I've had my Hotmail account, to which my gmail and other accounts all auto-forward, since the 1990s as well and have no reason to change it.

yahoo and hotmail both have dedicated feature rich clients in the store if you want to try those out. ive not yet had any issues with using msn in the stock mail client. i use the man and yahoo dedicated clients on the xoom also.

you can try and set your msn as an exchange account and see if that makes any difference?

I have my hotmail set to manually retrieve messages. It often won't show new messages but if I go check my email on my computer I have new email.

I've tried deleting the account and setting it back up again but that didn't seem to work.

I'm now in the process of setting it up under the other pop option to see if that fixes it.

That is the option I chose. I found I don't experience the problems under the "POP3/Other" setup route that I do under the other ones.

Yes, I am also having issues. At first I thought I was going crazy. I was using Chrome to access a Hotmail account that was syncing from Outlook and with my EVO LTE. When I used Chrome, the list of contacts was not getting refreshed - perhaps a caching issue. I would add a contact to Outlook, sync, not find it in Chrome, but would appear on the phone! Then I switched to using IE. Then I could see contact syncing from Outlook, but syncing from the phone started generating alerts "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." I hope I can get this working, since as an Outlook user, this seems to be the best / cheapest option.

While my sync with these accts has gotten a little more steady i'm still having problems sending email from these push accts. Anyone have any ideas?

Bascially the email tries to send but I get constant notifications that state it was unable to send the mail. Oddly my msn.com base email acct has had no issues whatsoever...but anything with a hotmail.com attached to it has all the troubles.

I spent literally hours trying to get hotmail to work. Note that hotmail account I was having trouble with was using a custom domain (https://domains.live.com/Signup/SignupDomain.aspx). I was also syncing with another hotmail account (@hotmail.com) which worked flawlessly. In the end, I decided to purchase a hosted Exchange account, which allows the use of a custom domain and is offered by Microsoft for just $4/month (Exchange Online - Hosted Email in the Cloud - Microsoft Office 365). I have been using it for a week and it works perfectly.

Note that the only reason I spent so much time with this is that I wanted:

1. Use an email with a custom domain
2. Wirelessly sync with my phone (no USB / bluetooth)
3. Use Outlook and have email, contacts and my calendar sync

The bonus from using Exchange is that it also syncs my tasks! Someday I hope that I can find a way to sync my notes, and then my Android will do everything that my Palm Treo did (using a USB sync).

I wish I could have figured out a way to have used Hotmail to save money, but I suppose I could switch back if it ever start working or becomes more stable.

I also have two Hotmail accounts on my EVO 4G LTE. They are setup as exchange accounts. One works fine and the other wont send emails and wont sync. The sync icon is red and I get a send error if I send emails from that mailbox.

I unchecked the "Update when opened" option on my Hotmail accounts and now they both seem to work.

settings -> accounts & sync -> [select your Hotmail account] -> uncheck "Update when opened"

UPDATE: worked fine for a while, but the sync and send issue is back.

I think the hotmail app works better than the default app with hotmail setup as an exchange account. I do like having all my mail in one app though.

Yes, I've discovered this.

Setting it up as a POP account works, but absent of the PUSH option; which I want.

Setting it up through the hotmail or exchange route results in it not working at all. Can't send emails, can't sync.

Also, when I set it up as a POP account I keep getting an error message. Something about sending login requests too frequently, or something.

This is annoying hell out of me.

EDIT: I think the push option is only available through the exchange setup? Both the hotmail and pop route don't allow this option.

I don't think it's an HTC or phone issue. In addition to myself, I know of at least a half dozen other people who use Hotmail and who don't have your problem. Each of them set it up as a POP3/Other account and are happy with that, even though they would have liked push capability (which does suck up more battery power, BTW).

Have you tried K-9 Mail? I used to loathe that app because of its confusing, complex folder classification and similar stuff. However, they've changed things significantly. It's now much improved and easy to use. It also utilizes push capability AND allows one thing stock Email or Hotmail stock accounts won't--the ability to click on a URL in the body of the Email and go right to that website. Hypertext linking was disabled in the stock Email accounts (Hotmail, et. al.) due to the Apple patent infringement crap.

I thought you did have the syncing/unable to send emails from hotmail through the default app problem?

Either way all I want is:

1. One client for all my email accounts
2. Push capability (uses less battery as you pointed out)

But what I also think I should be able to have is the default client work!

No, I didn't have any synch problems with the stock app and setting up Hotmail. The problem I encountered was that when I set up the stock app as an exchange account, the option to have Emails NOT be deleted from the server when I deleted from my phone was not available. This was a dealbreaker for me. I was forced to leave hundreds of Emails on my phone, then read and delete them on my PC before deleting them on my phone, because when I deleted them on my phone, they were always immediately deleted on my PC, and there was no way to change this. Setting it up as a POP3/Other account did, however, offer me this option.

K-9 Mail (free app) does offer you the ability to have multiple Email accounts in one setting. In fact, there's a unified in box where you can read all your Emails from all accounts in one location, and each account can have a colored box next to each message to let you know at which account you are looking when browsing your Email.

Okay. Upon googling I've noticed I'm not the only one suffering this problem, just one of the unfortunate.

I might give K9 a shot. Thanks.

Btw, I think push is better on the battery, from my reading anyway.

From what I've read, a lot of people are having this problem. Seems to be a new EAS protocol change MS pushed to their servers.

On my EVO LTE, I can't send email. Sync/push email works fine but I've not been able to send outgoing email except for a few days when I deleted my account and set it up again. It worked for a few days and stopped. Occasionally I get the "sync failed" or "problems" notification.

I've tried both "Hotmail" setup and setting it up as an exchange service with m.hotmail.com. I have an MSN.com email.

I think it also has to do something with the client - My EVO 3D works flawlessly. Sends and syncs email without any problems. Never once have I see it not work.

I'm now hoping for an HTC update which sorts out this incompatibility.

I got it to work only by setting up my Hotmail as a POP3/Other account or by using K9 Mail.

FWIW, here's what I ended up doing.

On my old N1, I fiddled with K-9 but ended up not really liking it, seemed too complex for what it needed to do, and didn't like the battery cost from checking so often (had it at 30 minutes). Then I found out about the Exchange trick to get push email to the stock email app and ran that for a pretty long time, but I never really loved that interface either and hated the fact that html content could not be shown.

So I set up a dedicated Gmail account that POPs the hotmail account. I have that account set to email out as my 'hotmail.com' address. No other email goes in or out of that account. And since it's a Gmail, it pushes to my LTEvo AND Transformer with no problems. I like the interface, html content shows, and links are active.

I think it's the best of all worlds.

I have seen threads posted for this but no solution. Whenever I try to sync my hotmail via active exchange or just under hotmail itself I get the "Sync is currently unavailable". I get get POP3 to work but I would prefer push mail. Any ideas?
