Hey, first of all don't think of welcoming me for the thousandth time MODS, listen to what im say-ing! I got my droid last december and when i first opened up the text message app i noticed that there was a preloaded thread on my droid. so i looked through it and saw 3 sent messages from my phone. i did not send them. these messages concerned someone named Stephanie Curtis, please tell me if might know how these messages got here.

Not sure if I buy this. First I'm pretty sure (not certain) that in order for the phone to be reactivated with a new client/new number it has to be factory restored. Meaning all texts, phone logs and porn viewing habits are deleted. Secondly, why would you post this 3 months after buying the phone?

However, If this is legit, I recommend getting Stephanie Curtis's number, googling her address and then ordering her several delicious pizzas from local pizza joints.

I'm quite certain Stephanie did nothing to deserve someone being an asshole to her.
I'm also quite certain that the phone simply was not reste correctly. I have swapped several phones fromn my ESN to my wife's online. It's not like the phone erases itself.
...And not for nuthin', but an experienced cell phone store manager just said as much.

When I got my droid, sometime between Christmas and New Year's, the phone was definitely restored to the factory defaults, but there was someone else's data on the memory card.
The previous owner made some pretty heavy use of the camera at Christmas and it seems a trip to the beach with his girlfriend. Sadly, nothing too "interesting". Just typical beach and Christmas stuff.

I just picked up 2 droids from the store for my family yesterday and I was kind of upset that verizon brought the phones already open. I guess they want to set them up or charge them but how do I know if I'm getting a new phone or a return? what if someone knocked it around or didn't treat the battery properly for 1 month and then returned it.

I don't mind buying refurbished as long as its clearly marked and priced accordingly. This open box sale bugs me.

That's the benefit of living in a (relatively) small town. My ex-wife and her fiance beat my daughter and I to Verizon by 15 minutes the day I got my Droid (December 6th), so he got to unbox his Droid (and she got an Eris, which she hates), and I got to unbox the first Omnia 2 (I was coming from a heavily modded Omnia that stopped working after I fell in the Delaware River) in our local Verizon store. Then the salesgirl brought me out a Droid still in box, let me compare the two, and after choosing the Droid, I knew it was a new one because I had opened it myself.

On two more or less unrelated notes: a) I'm not some weirdo who plans stuff with my ex-wife and her fiance, it was a random coincidence, as my Omnia actually worked after I used the isopropyl alcohol trick after climbing out of the river on December 4th. I had it back up and running relatively fine by the morning of the 5th, and I had intended to keep it until after Christmas at least (to read some Omnia 2 reviews and comparisons to the Droid). Unfortunately, the touch screen was totally unresponsive when I got up the morning of the 6th, forcing the trip to Verizon. Just wanted to throw that out there, so no one was unfairly judging me. b) The Omnia and the Omnia 2 both have better 5mp cameras than the Droid, hands-down. Best cell phone camera I've ever used, and even better than some digital cameras I've used.

PS - Omnia sucks, and my biggest regret about buying a Droid (and loving it so much) is that it made me realize how limited a phone that I actually really liked was.
