Hi everyone,

I tried searching for this but didn't quite get any relevant hits. I'm just wondering if it's possible to get the Nexus 7 to play sound only when ear/headphones are plugged in? I tried looking for it in the sound settings, but it's not there.

Is this possible?

Thanks.

Firstly, Welcome to the forums!

Second, is your question meaning you don't want the tablet to play any sounds if there are no headphones plugged in?

Yeah, this is what I mean. I generally like to have my tablet/phone on silent when at work and be able to listen to music when I plug my earphones in.

I know how to use the volume button, but sometimes I forget that I have the sound on after I'd stopped playing music, and the music would play immediately when I turn on the tablet. Similarly, I have to always remember to turn the sound on when I try to play music, so it's a little irritating.

I'm used to using my Mac or iPhone that would be muted at work, but I can still have sound when I plug in my earphones. Is this possible on the Android/Nexus?

Thanks!

You could probably setup a profile in tasker to do this. I have a similar profile setup for to lower notification volume when my headphones are plugged in because if I don't it's deafening!

Download the weeks trial from the Tasker website and have a play, see if it does what you need it too: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/

Cool thanks! I'll give it a try!

Tasker may seem daunting at first but give it a try. with it you can set sound off until you plug in your headphone or attach to a BT device.

I use tasker to set my sound to silent between midnite and 7am but if an incoming call is from a member of my family, it will ring normally.

another thing I do is when my car is turned on, my phone will connect to my car's BT automatically. when it connects my phone will start up a music player and start playing. All happens while my phone is in my pocket.

My one gripe about tasker is that its constantly waking my phone (though screen is stays off) which drains some of my battery at night.
