Root A strange problem with WIFI/Airplane mode.

So,
I got an Android phone last week, and yesterday noticed that I was unable to turn off my WIFI. Even if I do turn it off it comes on again within 5 seconds. I have been through WIFI settings etc and have found no solution.

Then I tried to put the phone into Airplane mode and that also just came back on instantly.

For a completely different reason I put in a new SIM yesterday, I put on some prepaid credit and wake up this morning to find all the credit has gone, around $10. I made one call and sent 3 SMS.

I dont understand what is going on or what to do about it, any help would be appreciated.

I have tapped it a bunch of times and it didn't help. Not only that but when the wifi goes off for a few seconds I get a symbol in the status bar that is an H with 2 arrows, I think it means the phone is using 3G? This disappears when the wifi comes back on. I am begining to feel a little foolish as I think I may of caused the problem though I dont see how as other than this the phone works perfectly.

This usually happens to me when I hit WiFi and Airplane mode at the same time. Pulling the battery is usually how I fix it. Sometimes repeatedly hitting wifi on/off works too.

And if you factory reset you'll likely lose root and can brick your device.

Sulky Android....thats about how I feel at the moment.

So if I factory re set and I loose root cant I just root it again? Though bricking it seems not worth the risk.

Sorry, I misunderstood.
Apps currently running are;
Settings.
Pudding Camera.
Avast.
DRM content.
Software update.
SyncmIDS
Maps ( I thought this may be the issue, tried to stop it and it wont stop, so could that be the culprit??)
Google services
Time
Touch Store pro (which is the Avast stolen phone tracker)
Swype

I dont have a connection manager installed.

Do you have a custom recovery that you could wipe cache and dalvik cache, then reboot?
Have you downloaded any apps recently? You say you have no apps running but they could be running in the background.

As Sulky said, a downloaded app may be doing this as some apps have various permissions to do things such as this:)

Titanium back up says 'there are no unneeded files in the Dalvik Cache.

Maybe try clearing/force closing Software update. Those often desire wifi to download them. Phone trackers also use wifi to help locate the phone. In fact, I don't see a problem closing the rest of that stuff. Does stopping those processes do anything?

And actually boot into recovery by pressing power + volume down + the home key (if you got one). MikeStoney wanted you to clear your dalvik and cache partitions so your phone would create new ones on reboot.

When I hit 'close' on Pudding Camera, Avast, Maps, Google Services, Time, Swype, they all just re-start.

If I re boot into recovery mode I get the options 'Reboot system now' 'apply update from SD card', 'Wipe data/Factory reset', 'wipe cache partition'. Which do you suggest I choose?

And I must say I really appreciate your help!
