Hey all glad I found this forum. I have an interesting situation and am trying to "game the system" a bit, so hear me out.
I have been with tmobile for 4 years. I just hit the 22-month upgrade mark on 2/25. My contract is not up for another 10 months. I am on a 2-line family plan, the Classic 1K Talk/text. My current phone is the G2x. After data, the two lines cost about $65 per line each month.
I have an offer from a bunch of friends of mine who are on Verizon. They are on an unlimited talk/text, with about 1GB of data per line. If I sent my two lines over there, it would be NINE lines on this account. The bill would be like $48/month per line. Really good deal.
Now, if we were to move, the two lines would both owe TMO $200 per line in ETFs. However, since I am upgrade eligible, this was my plan.
1. I can get the Galaxy S3 for $179 on my current plan since I am due for an upgrade. This is roughly what I could get for my G2x on ebay (I'd probably be in the hole $20 or so), etc by selling it. This deal on the S3 goes through 3/31 according to the TMO loyalty rep.
2. I would then use the Tmobile GS3 until then end of my bill in April, and then sell it. Those are going for about $500 on ebay in like new condition. That is when I am looking at switching to Verizon. At that point, I know how much the Verizon GS3 is for a new add-a-line. It is about $100. The thinking here is that I would use the $500 from the sale to pay the $200 ETF fee on the Tmobile line, and the $100 for the new Verizon phone and still be up around $150-200.
Is that feasible? Would Tmobile blacklist the phone even if I sold it after 30 days?
I could really use some quick opinion on this, as I would like to put this plan in action this weekend.
