List of "OMG WHY NOT" things....

I just smashed my HTC One X, and my boss gave me an S4 (Awesome to the max).

No doubt the S4 is a much greater phone. Better screen, faster and more responsive, weight is noticeably less, it is thinner and on and on goes the list of improvements. I am loving the hardware.

However.... I am missing a number of important things, that was build in to the HTC by default.

  • In the full screen calendar widget I can't scroll from month to month by sliding up and down, I have to click the small annoying arrows from side to side. What is strange is that the SMS widget and Email widget can scroll up and down, but for some reason not the calendar widet.

  • How and where can I change the click sound for the dialpad (for when making calls), keypad (for when sending sms and mail) and screen touch sounds? I don't want to turn them off I wan't to change them. How can this be so difficult? Did they really imagine that the Blurb Blurb sound was what the majority wants? This is baffling to me. I can only turn it on and off but not change it.

  • 2 unlock sounds/effects. Really? What, did you run out creativity? I wan't a "click" like sound when I unlock my phone, not a loud annoying "wriiing" or the bubbles from hell. I don't care about the "effect" but only 2 sounds, and they both suck...?

  • Popular contacts on lock screen. On the HTC there is a feature where it automatically takes your most used contacts and place them on your lock screen. Then when you wan't to call one, you just drag that face in to the circle and it calls that person directly. This is very useful and a massive time saver. Despite the million smart things it does, most of the time I take out my phone, it's to make a call.

If anyone can help with advice on how to fix the above problems, it would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT:
My S4 verison is the GT-I9505
Android 4.2.2

There are currently 13 different models of the Galaxy S4 phone with countless different firmwares. It may help if you give your, "Version", and "Firmware", details as per post #1 of, "13 Galaxy S4 models - know yours?".

For instance, I am using a Galaxy S4, GT-i9505, quad core on unbranded firmware and the, "S Planner", app installed on that allows for vertical/horizontal scrolling through the Days, Weeks, Months and Years.

Curious about this S Planner app...I can't seem to find it on my stock VZW GS4.

It looks as though your operator may have removed this stock Samsung feature fyrfyter612.

S Planner, along with S Note, S Translator, S Voice, S Health, S Memo, Favourite Apps, Favourite Contacts, etc; all appear on the 2 main, unbranded, global, versions and can be very useful.

However, as mentioned in #1.2 of 14 Galaxy S4 models - know yours?...

You will see, the two main Samsung Galaxy S4 models are the global International, GT-i9505, quad core and the International, GT-i9500, octa core, models with the other variants based on these. These variants all have different versions of the stock Samsung firmware that the International models run on and may have features removed, added or amended as well as carrier add-on's, sometimes referred to as "carrier bloatware".

On this General forum we have posters talking about the Galaxy S4 as though there is only one model and firmware when in fact there are currently 14 different models, some with different hardware, and lots of variations in firmware.

Am I the only one bothered by the lack of choices in keypad/dialpad/unlock/lock/screen touch sounds?

The above sounds are located at...

"/system/media/audio/ui"

However, you will need to be rooted to access , amend, replace or delete them.

For step-by-step instructions on rooting the GT-i9505, see the Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide.

Not me, it's the first thing I switch off on any phone, and when I encounter someone with keypad tones while out and about I have to fight the urge to stomp on it...

I have no idea why you'd need a tone to tell you you hit a button (even a virtual one).

Could be just me, though...

Try the play store for a calendar wodget app, I use the Next Launcher Calendar widget and it works great with my stock calendar, pretty sure you have to have next launcher for that, however there are tons of calendar widgets, I'm sure one will have what you are looking for. Check the reviews before you install.

There might also be a locker that will allow you to add popular contacts to lock screen. I think Go Locker has that option and they also have some pretty great looking themes. Also in the play store
