No one has mentioned THE most valuable app you can have. If you loose all your apps for any reason, what a pain to download them all over. Possibly, how costly? I have mybackup pro and have used it several times. I had to exchange a faulty Droid twice and I can't imagine dwnlding all my apps again. Plus, the program also saves and can restore data.

I think alot of the apps out there do that and more. I use lookout, it's 1)anti virus scanner 2)data backup and 3)missing device locater all in one app!

Astro is also another good app that'll back everything on your phone

Do any of those you mentioned backup apps? I don't think so. Mybackup is the only one I have found that backs everything and I have looked.:)

Everyone keeps mentioning swype but its not available on the market via my HTC MAgic. Also read that its only beta and that its been removed recently, can anyone confirm this.
Thanks

Also I love the Google maps navigation app but it really needs maps downloadable to the SD card as after giving it a test run the other night when you loose data you loose your maps, ok i did a good job of catching up when i was back in range but it really does need downloadable maps, anyone know if this will be available soon:D

It is available just do some searching - I downloaded it about a week ago and the beta was already closed. Its fully funcitonal, becareful cause some of them are only for a certain screen size.

I think my current favourite has to be Terratime.

It's a clock, that shows you sunrise, sunset, solar/lunar noon, and moon phase. Oh, and it's a 24 hour clock, which marks the 'night and day' on the dial.
Comes with sun position active wallpaper - either projected map, or globe.

May sound quite simple, but I really like the 'at a glance' view of the day - I can see how many hours of daylight I have left, and generally feel more in tune with how the world is.

TerraTime: Home

Free version lasts a few days, paid version is pretty cheap.

Honourable mention for Robot tower defense, because it's addictive and is responsible for my battery going flat several times.

Im getting an Eris tomorrow and i wanted to ask some advice on what some of the best apps were for the phone.

Don't get an Eris. It is dead tech.

Just picked up my new awesome amazing spectacular and fast Incredible today, ouch. My cool app is android task killer. one stop actions to kill all open apps.

I would uninstall it. With Android you really don't need it, and a lot of people say it makes the phone run slower, which is counter to what it claims to do.

The Eris isn't really dead tech, its just not the latest and greatest. It's still a good device.

As far as task killers are concerned, I'm using Advanced Task Killer, and it has been a world of help. Doesn't slow my phone down one bit.

About apps... as apps are upgraded, do you receive a notification that there is a new one available? or do you manually have to go check?

You'll usually recieve a notification when an update for an app is available.

Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using Tapatalk

Also, when you're updating, you're installing the apps again, so check to see if the developers added any new permissions. Also some updates make the apps WORST then prior to the update. Remember to reread reviews of the apps before you update. Other users might complain about lags and foreclosures after the updates.

Signing off,

Favorite apps? So many to choose from! Titanium backup will backup all your apps plus your data. Much better than my backup pro for that reason but you have to be rooted.
Also, just found Android Commander which will copy all of your apps from your phone to your computer and vice versa. Really handy feature. It uses ADB but you don't have to be rooted for it to work. You can also use it to remove unwanted apps from your phone or put them back on. That's a really sweet feature for us less than savvy folks who just don't get how to use ADB or emulator.
And then there is Aldiko book reader and Meridian Music Player (pro of course for audio books, videos and music all in one place).
And lets not forget MyLock so I don't have to swipe to unlock my phone every time it takes a nap. And Jersey TV-Guide for my TV listings. And then there is aCar to keep track of my car expenses and maintenance schedule. And Gentle Alarms and Palmary Alarms so I never forget what I am supposed to be doing even when I am busy playing with my DROID! Whew! Guess I better stop now.
