I got the S4 about a year ago and used it every day almost constantly. I used it as a phone, GPS (google maps), web access (chrome), and other apps. I had switched from a DINC 2 to the S4. At first I thought it was awesome but over the course of a few weeks/months the performance had gotten really bad (lots lag). It performed at about the same level as the DINC 2. I also noticed that the signal strength was a lot worse than the DINC 2. I'm on Verizon and with this phone I would be able to hear people but they stopped being able to hear me all the time. Since I use this for work (sales) it was very frustrating. It degraded to the point where texts would even fail when I'm in my office.
My work allows me to change carriers (AT&T, VZW, Sprint) as often as I want with no penalties. I called VZW to see if they'd send me a new phone but they wouldn't so I switched to sprint. There were no other android phones out there that interested me so I decided to try the iPhone 5s. It's only been 2 days but so far it's significantly better than I thought it would be. There's just one thing I don't like (fixing the placement of icons) but I haven't even tried to search for a solution yet. I'll know more in a few months but so far, so good.
