Help Incredible Won't Charge!

Charged my new Inc last night for 7 hours and woke up this morning with a fully charged phone ready to go. I spent several hours today checking out all the neat features of the phone until I got an alert saying I only had 15% of my battery left and needed to charge it.

The phone has now been charging for over 4 hours and when I unplugged the charger I got another alert saying I had less than 8% left. I checked and the charger is plugged in to the wall and to the phone.

What could be wrong? Any advice? I've already called VZW support and they had me remove the battery, check for any damage, but nothing else.

I'm very disappointed after waiting all this time for my Inc and already having a problem. But I know I'll love it if I can ever get it up and running again.

Yes, the orange light is on. The battery symbol in the upper right hand corner shows one green bar in the right hand of the battery with a white lightening bolt, but I thought earlier I saw it scrolling across in green as it was charging....or maybe that was just my imagination.

I hope I can get some help tomorrow when I go to a Verizon store.

Hrm, you could try using a different power source (computer) and/or a different micro usb cable. It does sound like a hardware problem with the phone though. Is the orange light just to the right of the Verizon logo lighting up when you're plugged in?

It's a long shot, but did you try a different outlet and/or check the GFI (if your outlet has one)?

Hi,
I wish I was writing to offer you help but I'm actually writing because I'm having the exact same problem you are. I've tried everything I could find online and I called the store where I bought it yesterday. I posted a cry for help on the Verizon forum last night and no replies yet - lots of people looking at it though. Here is a link to my post there in case you want to read if we are having the exact same problem:
Incredible battery won't charge - already tried taking the battery out - Verizon | Forums and Blogs - Verizon Community
I've tried different outlets, thought maybe I had the cord plugged in wrong,etc... I'm now just waiting for the Verizon stores in my area to open so that I can go go down there. I'm furious because I don't have any time to waste but I can't call Verizon because my not-so-incredible Incredible is my only phone and it doesn't have enough juice to make any kind of a real call at this point.

I'm so disappointed! I was resistant to give up my old smart phone and button keyboard but as soon as I played with the Incredible in the store yesterday for about 30 seconds I was in love. Deep, certain, joyous love - and I'm just not like that about technology. I hope this is just a little bump in the road.

Yes, I tried different outlets but still no luck. I did start using it last night while it was charging and the green bar on the battery indicator did start scrolling across as if it were charging but this morning it is completely dead even though I left it charging all night.

So it looks like a visit to VZW will be on the schedule for today. I'm very disappointed to say the least.

KW, sorry to hear that you and I are in the same boat. I hope by now you have had a chance to get to the VZW store and are now happily charging your phone. I have to wait until my daughters' softball games are over before I can make my visit.

If you have time, I'm curious to know what they said was wrong. Hopefully it will be an easy fix.

After a trip to the local Verizon store where they tested different batteries and chargers, my phone is official DOA. It will not power up even when connected to a charger. I was not able to get it replaced at the store since they are out and I would not have received the instant online rebates, so after calling a CSR I have a new Incredible shipping out on Monday and it will be here Tuesday. While not the perfect scenerio, I am very happy with the customer service Verizon offers and I'm once again looking forward to exploring all that the Incredible has to offer.:p

I have had this happen and had to change cords. I had one that worked fine for 2 days then just quit charging plus it had the phone acting funny. Plugged it into my car charger and all is well again. This is the second home charger that I've used that Ive had problems with. I would say its the cords but they both worked for awhile

I HAD the exact same problem. Got my phone last wensday, and charged it up once maybe 80%. Got back sunday night and threw my incr on the charger overnight. Woke up the next morning to find it DOA. The orange light would blink for a min or so if you plugged it in, then go off. So I started messing around with my DMM. The battery is a 1300mAH 3.7VDC same exact spec as the Droid eris. I read a .5vdc charge across the battery when its hooked up to the phone but as soon as its taken out 0vdc. I think we have a batch of bad batteries. I managed to talk my local store into giving me a droid eris battery. I just got home and put it on the charger, currently its at %51. wait %50 I will post back here in a bit, cause now I think I have a bad phone :(

i have had my HTC Incredible since May 14th, and have had no problems with it. One month ago I exchanged the usb power cord because the one that came with the phone was separating. The mini usb head was coming off the cord and wires were being exposed. I have been using the Verizon brand cord for one month with no problems until this weekend.

On Thursday evening, I plugged my phone in before going to sleep. It was on the charger at least 8 hours. Blinking charge bar and everything. When I woke up and unplugged it, it immediately went into the orange. I thought it was maybe my mistake and plugged it back in, and it wasn't even recognizing it was plugged in. I noticed a little give in it and moved it around a little, and a message popped up on the screen saying my charger wasn't compatible with my phone. Confused, I set the phone down (still plugged in) and went to get ready for the day, planning to go to the Verizon store first and have it checked out. But when I came back, it was fully charged.

Friday evening it charged with no problems. But last night, Saturday, I had the same exact experience as Thursday. I even tried plugging it into my computer. My computer recognizes something is there, but the phone doesn't seem to know its plugged in at all.

I am going to take it to Verizon after work today. I hope something gets figured out.

I had this problem with my brand new Droid Incredible, ordered from Amazon Wireless. The charger itself wasn't the problem--I tested it. I also tested the battery and it was fine. The only thing left would have either been some part of the phone or the cord. With no way to test the cord because I didn't have another device that took that kind of cord, I had to just request a brand new package. Amazon was great about it and got me a new phone the next day. Sure enough, it was the cord that had gone bad and the bad cord alone was causing the phone not to charge.

I am having the same issue and can confirm that it is not the cord or the battery. At least not in my case.

I just got a replacement incredible from verizon yesterday. Left it charging overnight (usb to my laptop while also transferring files), this morning it was dead. It was still plugged in, the orange charge light was not on. I had to run to work, so I put it on my car charger on the way over, same thing - didn't charge, no orange light. Got to work and hooked it up to the charger I have here (wall outlet), same. Thats three different chargers.

The issue with my last incredible was that it would overheat and reboot itself, occasionally wiping my settings as well. But it did not have problems charging. When verizon sends a replacement phone they send just the phone, and its a refurb. I'm using the same battery and chargers from my old phone, so I know those have worked in the past.

I still have the old phone. I popped the battery back into that one and it charges fine. It was at 0% when I turned it on. After charging it for a bit, I put it back into the new phone to see if it would even turn on, it does. Now when I put the charger in the orange light comes on and the battery indicator at the top show its charging... but the battery still drains.

I don't have any apps on the new phone that I didn't have on the old phone.

I've already called verizon and they are sending another replacement.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your first post. I could have typed the above story. My next to the last refurb would not take a charge. I ended up charging my old battery in my old phone.. put it back into the refurb and drained it for a second time. It still wouldn't charge.. put it back into the old phone and charged it for the third time. Needless to say.. I sent it back for another replacement. I had my bad phone.. a bad replacement.. and my last replacement all sitting here on my desk at one time lol. I have no idea why the one phone wouldn't charge.. don't care really.. just moved on to one that would.
