Reverse Teethering

Hi guys,

Is there an app or widget or a tweak to get reverse teethering working on HTC Desire ?

Like when I have my Desire connected with my PC via USB or Bluetooth and PC is connected on LAN and has a wireless card ,is there a way to access my PC internet on my phone ??

It can't be done via USB or Bluetooth but you could share a connection through an ad hoc WiFi network.

By the way, sharing your phone's 3g with a computer is called tethering not teethering.

It is now 2010, WiFi and 3g are the norm.

Just out of interest why would you want to tether your phone to your pc's network? The only reason I can think of is of your are desperate for a particular app.

The mobile internet experience on the desire is excellent but for me a keyboard and a pc is still superior, be it email, browsing, rss or documents.

I also want to be able to reverse tether as I have a crappy data allowance (Vodafone 500mb) and when I am at work there is no wifi therefore if there was a reverse tether app then we could get email etc on our desire without using the data allowance (and it would be faster).

It does seem odd to me that all winmo devices have this feature for years. All you need to do is install active sync and it works straight away but Android does not have the ability to connect

I think that the OP wants to use the computers internet on his phone and not share his 3g with the computer

Nope, this cannot be done. It really isn't a requirement for the vast majority of people nowadays, probably explaining why it was a feature back in the day but not really cares about anymore

You can setup a notebook or wireless adapter to the desktop as a router by using the built in wifi, and then connecting your phone to that.

I suggest you should type in "ad hoc WiFi network" into Google, any of the top ten results should suffice.

sadly my work laptop is Windows Visat not 7.

I've had my HTC Desire for two days, and I'm already wanting to do reverse tethering with the USB cable. Network policy here doesn't allow me to set up wireless, so USB is the only option.

Just stopping by to tell you the ad hoc network won't work. When trying to connect, your device will tell you that ad box networks aren't supported by Android yet. Tried with both 2.1 and 2.2.

But how do you do it over USB? Can't set up ad-hoc networks at work, and there's no accessible Wi-Fi.

this is only supported with desire HD
i believe its a hardware limitation as no one has mentioned it on the hd roms for desire
