Mate Came round .........

......... last night he had just got the Blackberry Bold, i was impressed with it. he had calls & messages coming in and instead of having to read them a voice read them out,amazing.

I have had my Desire for 2 weeks now and i am struggling to get my head around the tech talk to set it up being as this is my first smartphone.

Will the desire do what his phone will do or is it behind in this sort of thing??

I think you'll find this is an app called DriveSafe.ly, It is available on all android devices (I currently use the lite version on my HTC Hero on Android 1.5).

Check it out, the lite version only does texts afaik but its very good!

To quote that site he linked to "Listen to text messages, emails and screen caller ID while the app reads them aloud to you", and "DriveSafe.ly Android App is an innovative way to listen to your SMS text messages, emails and even screen your caller ID hands-free as the app reads then aloud to you" and to quote the site of the app (Free Mobile App Stops Texting While Driving - DriveSafe.ly) "Reads your text messages and emails out loud in real time". So from what I can gather it reads out texts, emails and caller IDs. Hope that helps.

Try an App called Vlingo.

You can set it as a widget that reads all incoming messages and emails automatically as well as adding various other voice/speech functions to your phone.

It also does K9 mail but not Googlemail.
