I think EvilEris 3.0.1 does that - on every boot, not just the first one.
Creeped me out every time I saw it - makes you think the phone is bricked or something. There's probably some way to put an animation in there, but I'm not an expert at it.
I didn't pursue it because I'm not using that ROM much at the moment; but you might want to check the EvilEris thread on XDA, or put up an inquiry in there.
Yeah there is no boot animation on Evil Eris, and the initial boot takes a longggggg time... I thought it was broken so I did a battery pull. Tried again, and decided to wait it out... took 10-15 minutes I think, but it worked.
Framework forgot to add the bootscreen. Its no big deal.
You can add your own by downloading a "bootanimation.zip" and pushing it to /system/media/ via ADB. Assuming you have Android SDK downloaded and setup.

Are there any boot animations that are cooler than the electric X? That is my absolute favorite that I've seen so far, just based on the few ROMs I've tried out. Not sure how it can be topped, but I'm open to suggestions
Now there are also a couple of different ways to do install the zip for the animations besides ADB in case you don't like command line stuff. You can install onto SD card then move via Root Explorer or similar to the /system/media folder or I believe there is an app and/or some roms that have it built in. Let me know if you need more help, it's one of the things I'm fairly decent at.

Hi, I moved my bootanimation.zip to the system/media folder running evil eris 3 and still have black screen. The zip is definitely there. I tried it from data/local first as well, same thing. I'm bummed.
