Change firmware?

I recently bought a HTC Tattoo in Thailand which came with Thai firmware installed (Android 1.6). Probably mostly this includes support for Thai character set + some chinese character recognition. In return it doesn't have the compact querty keyboard and probably other differences.

Is there any way I can install the standard US firmware?

That complicated huh. I think I might wait until the Android 2.1 is out
