Help Contacts groups not syncing

Created some new Contacts (Option saves contact on phone)
Added contacts to some groups
(I have my contacts Merged with google)
Synced with google.
Result= The newly created contacts appeared in GMAIL CONTACTS BUT they were not anymore in the groups that they belonged to, and were in 'my contacts only'

So hundreds of my contacts on phone, which were assigned to groups, now all fall in the same pool and i have to re-do the work.
I re-assign the contacts into groups from GMAIL....and now sync works

SO basically the contacts sync happens both ways, but the group sync always happens one way ....from GMAIL to PHONE

Solution/Work Around (that seemed to work for me)

Create
Menu -> More -> Settings -> Save new contacts to Google

Now when I created a new contact, it saved in Google. So when I assigned the contact to a group and then synced with google, i do see it correctly in my gmail contacts.


This is my first attempt ever to provide a solution about an android issue.
