do ads use 3g network

lets say I am out somewhere using an free app with ads like most free apps outside of my wifi coverage meaning I'm using my 3G network, I was wondering for the ads to be able load will it use my 3g network and what happens if i prevent them to

Yes they can. You can put your phone into airplane mode and it should get rid of most ads. Or root you phone and download adfree android.

If the app has a paid version, and you like it, I'd suggest buying it to support the dev and be ad free in the process.

Also, if you enable airplane mode that shuts off everything including your ability to make and receive phone calls. What good is a phone if you have to do that?

Much easier to just disable 3G data if you don't want the ads.
