First off, I'd like to share some backstory with you all about my time in the smartphone world.

My first smartphone, was the Blackberry Storm which I got in the first week of release. I got that to replace my beat up LG Chocolate. Coincidentally, I still have my LG which works better than the Blackberry ever did. The Blackberry was constantly crashing or freezing up. It was so bad, that RIM replaced the Storm with the Storm 2 within six months. I had the Storm for two years....

I first heard about Android with the release of Nexus One. I liked everything the Nexus One had to offer however I wasn't willing to leave Verizon to get it. I waited and watched the Google website pounce on it the moment it was released on Verizon only to have my hopes dashed by the announcement that the N1 wouldn't be released for Verizon. Shortly after, I stumbled upon news of the Droid Incredible which was supposedly every thing the N1 was. I desperately wanted the DInc but they sold out in my area for months by the time any retailer got them in stock, the Fascinate was announced.

Here is where the asian in me went crazy. I had the choice of two amazing phones both with strengths, both with weaknesses. I played with both phones every day after work for a week straight trying to decide which to get. In the end, I chose the Fascinate. Reason being, the weakness with the DInc is in the hardware while the weakness with the Fascinate is in the software. Software can be replaced.

As a first time Android buyer I am blown away by the Fascinate. I read reviews trying to turn people away saying, "Bing this, Google experience that.". Let me tell all you prospective Fascinate owners, if you are coming from a non-android phone, you will not be disappointed. I don't even have a problem with TouchWiz or the little bit of lag there is which compared to my Blackberry, is nonexistent. I love the Fascinate and would absolutely recommend it to first time Android users.

    .....Oh and the screen, GORGEOUS!!!!

If you reboot the Fascinate before using the GPS, it will acquire GPS lock within 30 seconds, usually within 15.

My Blackberry didn't have GPS nor did I have another form of GPS so I'm alright with that. Some of the problems people have with this phone really are trivial. Play with a Storm for a few years then tell me the fascinate isn't amazing.

Good perspective. Im glad you are enjoying your SF and didnt get overwhelmed by the litany of complaints and problems. Mind you there are some legitimate quips with the SF. End of the day if you like and can live with it thats all that matters

I never had a wait like that except for the time I had AutoKill set very high. Dude, how many times have we told you to just return it. Some people get defective electronics. It's life. Exchange it for a new Fascinate. If you still hate it, then exchange it for something else. I know you're frustrated, and I know how you feel. It took THREE Eris phones to finally get me one that worked. But when I had irreparable and unresolvable issues, Verizon happily replaced the phone under warranty. Quit griping and go fix your problem! They will help you.

The Fascinate is certainly the phone with the least amount of those gripes for me. I don't want to sacrifice anything for something else. I want it all in a phone, if possible - no more lugging around the ipod and a phone and a PSP (never had one, but you know what I mean). Look at what a competitive and advanced technology market is doing to us!!!

Just find what suits your needs the best. For me, that phone right now is clearly the fascinate. It does more of what I need and want very well, and with very few aspects that I don't like. Very very few.

Agreed......and yet like you I'm very complimentary of the SF but there is always that little but or in your case very very few. Must be the [H] in us ;)
Human nature to always want more/better. But eventually, you realize what you got is pretty good as is and expect it...... even if I want more than 4GHz from my i7 :p
