Got the Vulcan moved off XP. Bought him a new box with 7 Home Premium as I know he'd have a fit with 8.
He's migrated and up and running - all in the space of 3 hours.
Was going to do it when support for XP died, but he fussed so much I installed a premium security suite and and other safeguards I could find.
I think he finally realized that he was using an old PC that I bought for a spare with w98SE and upgraded to XP. Generic box, so easy to repair and had been repaired once or twice. Connections like USB getting flaky.
Windows is still NO help with stuff not its own. Kept giving wrong info about old Canon LidoScan.
Got the drivers and software myself, installed and scanner working. It is good with HP printers, though.
