Oh really? I wasn't aware of that. Never had that issue ever with my EVO. Hopefully that gets fixed on 2.2.
yeah man. it was one of the first things i noticed and was extremely happy about when going to 2.2.
Everyone praises HTC like they're the best thing since sliced bread when it's actually quite the opposite. HTC has notoriously bad quality control issues, screen separation, cheap usb ports that fall off within a week and even intentional bugs that cripple your phone, you can keep Sense no thanks, lots of free alternatives that do the same thing for free in the Market.
I couldn't agree more! Most of the posters in this thread are EVO fanboys that can't admit that their phone is already irrelevant. The EPIC is far superior to the EVO in almost every way. Go back to your EVO forum and take your playa-hatin attitudes with you.
Is that photoshop or did you get the HTC clock widget from an app somewhere?
That was taken with an app called ShootIt, it usually requires root but for some reason it doesn't on the Epic. Widget is called Fancy Widget, Google it it's free but no longer available on the Market thanks to HTC crying foul.
EDIT: Here is some info on the snapshot app

Well I wasted a whole day playing with my wife's new Epic. I picked it up while she was at work. I gotta tell you, the screen is amazing(for games). Played the Asphalt demo and to be honest, there is no comparison, it smokes the Evo for game play. Now with that out of the way, here is my opinion of the two phones. Game play and screen are the ONLY on ups the Epic has on the Evo; at least right now. Now mind you I have a rooted phone with a custom ROM so I'm running 56 fps, no overclock. The capacitive buttons on the bottom are not responsive at all on the Epic. You have to push them like three or four times to get a response. Then the light goes out and you have to poke around to see where they are. The should be painted on or something. If you are into widgets, you better get ready to pay for them because they are few and sparse on this phone (already shelled out for Beautiful Widgets) because there is no replacement except one stock round clock which had the wrong time. As far as speed, well again there is no comparison IMHO. With my custom Kernel the Evo wins hands down and that is no exaggeration. But lets wait and see what the guys over at XDA come up with. Maybe someone can find a use for the slider keyboard, I don't like it and it's always moving about in your hand. The phone (Epic) has Swype and a pretty decent Froyo like keyboard. I would probably never use the physical keyboard but thats just me.
But we are Android friends here and I am not here to slam one Android for another. However being a launch day Evo owner with absolutely no problems from my device, I wouldn't trade for the Epic for anything. The programs on the Epic do a lot intuitive things like having a built in task manager/killer. But for the most part, the Evo does them faster and smoother. The Epic giving the option of pre-defined replies for phone calls is nice (that's pretty cool gotta find a way to do that). Audio/Video out to three way RCA video is a killer feature that lets you see whats on your screen. Frankly would have rather had that than HDMI out on my Evo. All in all the Epic is a pretty solid offering. However, coming from the Evo, I am quite happy where I am and what I use it for. The Evo is just a killer phone. Form is a little difficult for the Epic cause it's going to be hard to find a case thats not like an Oderbox sp? or something. But closed not much difference.
Bottom line, it's 4 o'clock in the morning now I couldn't get close to that phone if I wanted to. She really likes it and I'm sure the new Epic owners will fall in love with their Android handset as well. But as the tread asked, as an Evo owner, in my heart and mind, I'd choose the Evo any day. But some good 'ole sibling rivalry is good right?
BTW, the Epic camera is pretty fast and takes pretty good shots as well. Just have to figure out how to use the front facing one as soon as she goes to sleep. ;-)
The one plus about the evo's screen is that it does go really bright. On auto brightness about halfway, the screen is actually brighter than the Epic's screen on full bright. Of course the Epic's screen is better, but it's much harder to tell in indoor lighting. Outdoors (but not direct sunlight) is where I really saw the difference.
I took some pictures of this with another EVO at the store. But the EVO's screen makes up for colors (or lack thereof) with brightness.
Site won't let me upload attachment of 1mb? Oh well.
I think I've read somewhere that there is a brightness in Browser setting someplace? This is what I meant. Its just seems duller but I actually understood what Mr.Virginia was saying when I went to a few web sites. When the colors are bright and vivid they're like water but when dull, then it appears a lil muddy.
I'm not herer to bash the epic in any way but I think I found new life in my Evo. I finally rooted and loaded CM6 and I have to say it brought new life in the phone. The fps fix inlcluded and now I see less and less differences except for the screen of course.
You lose 4G, HDMI, and I think the FM radio... but nobody uses that. A lot of people still have issues sending texts over 160 characters. MMS is iffy as well. With CM6 do you lose 4G?

AAAAAAAARG. Of course you took a picture of the freakin browser. The Epic's browser has it's OWN brightness setting that must be tweaked individually. Menu -> more -> brightness setting. You'll notice it's WAY down. The reason for this is because SAMOLED screens use more battery when displaying white pixels. The Epic has the brightness turned down on the browser by default to save battery life.
The Epic's screen gets JUST as bright a the EVO's. Please take a picture of another app at full brightness.

Sounds like ultimately it'll come down to 2 choices: 1) Screen Size vs. Screen Clarity, and/or 2) physical qwerty and added thickness vs. no physical qwerty and less thickness.
Other than that, I think both phones are going to be considered top tier.
I did simple root and I was on the original 2.2 and simple root brought me back to 2.1 and then I rooted and then loaded a 2.2 root rom. This allowed me to go to cm6 with a different bootloader and recovery which I have if you need it. This is the only way you will be able to load CM6.Did you root to Froyo from CM6, or from to CM6 from Froyo? In other words did you get the OTA .6 update and then root it? If that can be done, I may be interested.
But I will do it when he fixes 4g.
That's correct. SAMOLED has superior black levels but it's white level (i.e. brightness) is lower then a good lcd like the EVO's. The black levels are what give the EPIC the thru the roof contrast ratio and this combined with the over saturated colors really make the screen pop. The colors aren't terribly accurate but I'm not an graphic designer/artist so I personally prefer the over-saturated colors. The one plus about the evo's screen is that it does go really bright.
