When I dial out using Google Voice the area code and number aren't the mine...does the person i am dialing see MY GV number on their caller ID.....GV is pretty useless for me if it is dialing out with a number unknown to my contacts

And if you put that number GV dials in your friends and family list calls are airtime free. I thought the number would rotate amongst a bank of numbers to thwart this but my GV always dials the same number.
I don't have texting (other than pay as your go), but since I have a 900 minutes plan I have the 5 "friends and family" deal. Also, I do not understand the underlined part of the post.Unfortunately I don't have texting so I have a plan without "friends & family" so I only save on outgoing, I still pay for incoming.

Hmm. So adding that number that you see when you dial out to F&F gives you free calling? Does that apply to incoming AND outgoing? And adding the GV number you signed up for doesn't give you any of these benefits, right?
1. You can "buy" the invite on Ebay for about $2.50. I did.
2. Unfortunately I don't have texting so I have a plan without "friends & family" so I only save on outgoing, I still pay for incoming.
Putting the "special" number that the GV dialer calls into your friends and family list will make outgoing GV calls airtime free because it's calling a friends and family number.
To get free incoming calls using GV, you have to change your GV settings (on a computer) so that the caller id of incoming calls is always your GV number (as opposed to having it display the number of the person who is calling you). You then add your GV number to your friends and family list so now all your outgoing and incoming calls using GV are airtime free.
You can still know the identity of the person calling you if you have call presentation enabled in GV (asks the caller for his or her name the first time then remembers it later or a computer voice reads the name if it's in your contacts).
I read the information about this app on the developer's website and cannot fathom how it would let you dial out on GV without using a F&F number and still provide no minutes charge. There is a great app that integrates nicely with GV that does not use the access number therefore saving one of your F&F. It also does not require the data side of your plan and because of that is often more reliable. You can also include or exclude numbers from going through GV and saves an extra step if you have the GV app to ask each time you make a call.
It does cost $3.00, Flex Dialer Pro.

So someone calls my real GV number, which I have NOT set up in F&F. No minutes? How does that happen?I did not say it would use GV without a F&F number. I said it would use one less F&F number. With the GV app you need 2 F&F, your GV number & the access number. With Flexdialer Pro you only need your GV number in F&F.

Go back to my original post #16 - that was my question. How does this program let you dial out on GV for free without using up a F&F slot for the outgoing call? The developer says the call will go out using the cell network. What it has to do (if it avoids minutes) is access GV just like the Droid was a PC, not a phone, using the data connection. The callback would then be on the cell network, and the F&F GV would apply. You must put your GV number in F&F for the call to be airtime free.

Nope. For incoming you can use the steps above or rely on your F&F list (with only F&F inbound being free, of course). I really don't need all inbound calls to be free so I don't have all inbound calls set to show my GV number for caller ID. I don't like call presentation either though.Hmm. So adding that number that you see when you dial out to F&F gives you free calling? Does that apply to incoming AND outgoing?
Thanks - maybe he will understand you, I seem to be a lost cause . . .he is talking about it not needing 2 ff slots. how does the app only need 1 slot for incoming and outgoing?
