The Kindle app just launched!
It's pretty cool.
I downloaded it and grabbed a few free old westerns.
It's readable although I'd never use the phone as my primary reading source.
My push me to get an actual kindal now since they can be synced.
Awesome! I've been waiting for almost a month and a half! Now I don't have to tote my ipod I can finally read my collection on my phone. Sweeeet!
I'm psyched. It synced up with my Pod very nicely and I can now work on my summer reading list. I just need to find the Time Traveler's wife on Kindle and I'm set. Starting on Bonk right now. Might move on to Spook.
I just downloaded it! I'm excited. I've been waiting for this for awhile. I had tons of books I'd read on long car rides on my old BB. Now I feel complete.
About time! I will not likely use this much, but it is nice to have when I do not have my kindle on my person.
So far the thing I don't like is that the text doesn't fill the whole page. There seems to be a lot of gap especially on the left side of the screen when in portrait mode. In Aldiko the words would fill the whole screen more like a book.
I don't know if this sounds clear or not, but I hope that is something they improve.
Also there are a lot less options for text color, background color, etc than in Aldiko.
Just downloaded this and I'm getting an error when I try to access the Kindle Store. Anyone else?
Kindle Store would not work on my stock browser. I told it to open in Dolphin HD instead and it worked just fine.
How do you easily find the free stuff?
What was that paperweight in the picture on the first post?
Stock and Skyfire browsers don't open it up to download books. What's going on?
You don't download books with it. You buy books through Amazon. They then sync with the software.
Dolphin did not work for me- it says "the web address is not a functioning page on this site". Stock does not work either. Steel and Skyfire failed as well.
I am going to the store in menu, as it asks and the browser does not access a page- as mentioned above. I guess I will stick with REAL books- better battery life
Funny how apps get all wild and silly and fail
Don't know what to tell you. It launches for me just fine with the stock browser.
Can I just buy books on the real website from my laptop?
Also, is this better or worse than LaputaII?
No harm no foul, since I never used it before, anyways. This is the first app out of hundreds I have downloaded that failed... Well, 3D ping pong failed on the Incred, but worked fine on the lower res G1.
1. Open Kindle app
2. Go to "menu"
3. Go to Kindle menu (used every browser that exists on Android) Needs to be mobile mode
4. Greeted with a small abridged novel of some sort titled, "Looking for something?" Here is the powerful, but short novel in it's entirety:
We're sorry. The web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.
Wow! That is some powerful writing!! Next!!!
Oh, well, at least the app next to it works great: Kitty Cannon
DenverRalphy led me to the issue: Browser needs to be in mobile mode for the app to work.
If you're getting an error loading the Kindle Store, I'll betcha a few cookies that you have Mobile View turned off on your browser.
wow not only does it work but i even found a book i want to read.....
can this get any better-
Let me check....
Yep! that worked! Kitty Cannon will have to wait. Thanks!
mobile view worked!
with laputa, I got a series of books, for free. I mean, is this much better or is it not work it if I got it already for free?
To answer some questions:
Yes, you can buy (or get free) books from your computer and have them sent to your phone.
The best way I have found to check out free books is to go to
Amazon.com Kindle Store: Over 600,000 eBooks, Newspapers, Magazines, and Blogs
And click "Top 100 Free" on the right side. Voila! Free books
Make sure you "register" your phone as a Kindle first by signing in (or creating) your Kindle account on your phone.
When you checkout to buy (or "receive") a book, it will ask which of your Kindle devices you want the book sent to (initially; you can use it on any of your Kindle devices, though). It listed my Android Incredible as "(My Names)'s ADR6300".
Been waiting awhile for this one to come out!
