Htc wildfire app problem

Hi ia mposting regarding my daughters phone that she had for christmas,
When she downloads an App from the market she gets a message saying unsupported handset!! Can any one tell me what this means? am not very 'Techy' when it comes to phones, this happens on a number of apps she downloads, I have tried updating the software but apparently thats all up to date
