Root new to root

So I finally decided to root my moto droid and got it to 2.01 rooted but thats as far as ive gotten, I am trying to get nandroid setup for back ups and stuff but ive hit a wall it seems. I have droid root helper installed and got the "tools" set. what am I supposed to do from here?

if youve got the tools setup, hit

mount mtdblock 3 r/w
mount mtdblock 4 r/w
rename recovery-from-boot.p
install and chmod busybox
install and chmod flashimage
Flash recovery
unmount mtdblock 3
unmount mtdblock 4
sync
reboot or reboot recovery

then from there in sprecovery you can nandroid to backup then switch to a different rom.

where is mtd found? is it in droidroothelp or in tools? or do I have to manually find it through terminal?

all that is done thru droidroothelper, the mount options are right at the top as you go down the list you go down the screen, only one that is really out of order is flashing the recovery which is at the very bottom.

installed onto the phone i currently have
droidroothelper-v9.0
terminal emulator
androzip
linda file manager.


when i click mount system read/write it holds up for about 15 seconds then wants to force close.i keep clicking wait.


under droidroothelper Ive installed "tools" to the root of my phone's SD card, i've also clicked the install "busybox" button in DRH and the install "flash_image" button. if needed i can add some photos later when I am off of work. (working at verizon retailer has its perks since im paid to do this )

if you do it in the order above it should work just dont forget to hit rename recovery or sprecovery won't stick and the stock recovery will come back happened to me when I first rooted. If you hit install busybox or flash image without mounting first its not going to work

as for the FC did you hit remember and allow for the superuser permissions. when you click mount it should say "system mounted as read/write..."

alrighty seems like the dev may have changed the text in buttons in update but im just gonna follow the order of the buttons flash recovery which i found lower in the menu tree. THANKS!

im clicking mount system read/write, rename, then installing busy box and flash_image, recovery, unmount system read only, sync then reboot

if i mess up i can always restore so here we go!

okay so I know have SPRecovery on my boot menu but when I try to do a simple nandroid backup I get
ERROR:Nandroid exited with status 31


I think i remember reading somewhere before that I have to wipe cache partition first, is that correct?

Go into your sdcard folder, and make a folder named "nandroid" . Then try the simple backup.

Don't wipe anything before you make your backup. After your backup is saved, before you load the new rom you can wipe data/cache. The nandroid folder is where you'll drop the new rom, and pull your backups from.

Sorry to be so newbish when it comes to this stuff, but i had one last question. to put a 2.2 rom onto the droid i just download the SPrecovery image and run nandroid right?

yup download the one you want and put it in your nandroid folder, wipe your data and cache then pick restore

so im trying to reinstall a rom from rom manager but when I go to do the installation I get error

E:can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
no such file or directory
mounted /SDcard.
