Help No gmail notification or auto-update

I'm not sure where to put this thread but I hope its okay here.

I recently installed Fission 2.4 on my droid 2 and had to start almost everything from scratch. It used to be that when ever I got an email a little notification would show up on the task bar. Now I have to go into the gmail app and hit 'refresh' to get any new emails. I've looked all around for an auto-update or refresh option but I can't find it. Does anyone know what I'm missing?

figured it out, just had to allow the gmail account to 'sync' under the accounts page
