I just got done dealing with this same stupid problem. I fixed it, but I'm not quite sure how or why yet.
I have the Samsung Galaxy S SGH-I897, 2.1 Update 1, 2.6.29 jeteak.lee@sep-11 #2, Eclair.UCJH7.
After trying everything mentioned above with no success, I noticed that I could still hear using my hands free earphones. So, I decided to try calling tech support to replace the phone using the headphones. I pushed the button on the headphones (which I hardly ever use) and something really odd happened. Winamp (version 0.9.2) immediately started playing.
This sort of confused me because I had initially thought it was just the normal music system playing, but it wasn't. It was Winamp. I didn't even realise this was a feature of the Winamp software.
I pushed the button again and Winamp stopped playing.
After I did this, the phone's receiver speaker started working again!!!
Again, I have no clue why this worked and I haven't been able to recreate the problem since. I also tried this earlier and it did not work.
This also isn't a knock on Winamp. It could happen in any software I would imagine. My guess is that shoddy programming in Winamp or other software programmatically disabled the speaker somehow. I'm a developer so I'm going to look into what function could cause this to happen and see if I can develop a quick fix for the problem.
Hope this helps!
