Root Not sure if I should root or not.

I am getting very frustrated waiting for Android 2.1 for the My Touch (HTC Magic).

So I was wondering if I should root or not. I got my phone about a month ago and I was just curious about what Pros and Cons there are to Rooting.

I was also wondering if it will void my insurance I have on the phone? I'm not so worried about the Warranty itself.
