Here's a possibility: Google announces the Galaxy Nexus, and it debuts as such in the UK. Might the marketeers have decided to call the as yet un released US version the Galaxy Prime? Perhaps in the US, the Prime is 32 GB storage, and the GNex is 16 GB storage?

Probably not, but who knows. This whole launch, or lack thereof, has been pretty poorly handled. Nearly anything seems possible.

I certainly don't disagree with you, or nj02vette, but I am encouraged when I see the article say in a demonstrative statement, that it will officially be dubbed the Nexus Prime on Verizon. That's all. It may all be poppycock, but I like the sound of it. :D

I've always put my phone in the pocket with the screen facing my leg. Any external trama hits the back of the phone, not the screen.

Seems like 11/27 isn't happening, guys.
Sorry if some of you have been looking forward to my optimism but at this point I'm counting on 12/8. If it comes earlier that's amazing but 12/8 is seeming likely at this point.

Judging by your username, that's understandable. :D

I also wouldn't mind the name change, but just don't think it would happen at this point in the game.

I agree as well. The devil in me thought about it (I posted that I was going to do it, but that it also didn't feel right). I even told my brother he could have my X2 this past weekend because I was going to do it. My conscience got the better of me. Well, my conscience and the fact that I work for a computer component company with VERY liberal policies and see people take advantage of them all the time. It's maddening. But our company is built on our CS reputation, so meh, gotta do it.

Interesting theory, if only Verizon hadn't announced the device as the Galaxy Nexus in the press release.

Quick question: I currently have the Razr, can I swap the sim card to activate the SGN?

Rob, first, thank you. You obtained productive attention much more quickly than our other efforts would have. I appreciate your time and attention.

    To your questions:

    1. If you know the G-Nex will be out by year's end, why is the specific date between now and then crucially important?

The date is not crucially important. It is, however, quite useful for planning. One important way is the double-data promotion (see #3).

    2. If Verizon announced a release date, testing hit a hiccup and the launch was delayed, would you be more angry than if they simply told you "by the end of the year"?

    3. Does this suffice or would you ask that I do more on behalf of our community?

Consider doing one other thing, and this is narrowly focused: Ask about the end date of the double-data rate promotion.

For those of us without unlimited data, the current double-data promotion is quite significant (of course). I am, therefore, really surprised that this has not received more attention this evening, for it has been discussed quite a bit in the thread previously. Indeed, a concern that the Nexus might not be released until after the double-data promotion expires has been a significant motivation behind RAZR and ReZound "rentals."

A VZW decision to confirm that those waiting for the Nexus release will still be able to take advantage of the double-data promotion would be a big help to the community. VZW need not specify an end date or even commit to general availability (they might not want to do that for competitive reasons). A commitment to keep double data available for Nexus purchasers for at least XX days (say 7-14 days) after the release and general availability of the Nexus would be adequate.

This would help the community, reducing the perceived pressure to "rent" a new phone to preserve the special promotion. But this would also help VZW, for it does not want a bunch of returned phones that it must refurbish and sell for less. In this respect the interests of the community and of VZW seem to match.

As to posting your letter and going into all the detail, I would lean against it. I think that there are things VZW does not want to discuss (as someone has already observed, the "They aren't ready" statement is inconsistent with the "they'll be ready before the year is over"), and pushing is not likely to change that.

However, should VZW send a brief statement in response to your contact stating that the Galaxy Nexus is currently undergoing rigorous testing, that it WILL be released BEFORE the end of the year, and that the double-data promotion will still be available to Nexus purchasers at that point (along the lines described above), I think that would be worth posting along with a brief explanation (not all the gory details).

    Thanks for considering this.

So, folks, would you like Rob to ask about the expiration of the double-data promotion? Click "Thanks" or post your own response.

That is an interesting question. I think it's a micro SIM, but not sure how that all works out. I know its a little more difficult than a standard GSM phone, because it still has an ESN for the CDMA portion of the phone, and that needs to get updated in Verizon's system.

Don't think you can just swap SIMs and be good to go.

Ha! Basically if it's fast or classic or has huge tires or is loud or a combination of those I'm all in.
And I melt for just 2 wheels and some loud pipes

    I'd make it cheaper.

Very clever dude, loved it. +1 Hilarious.

...or plugged into a car stereo or pretty much everything that isn't a Windows box.

Wow, impressive -- thanks for that! Note that it is not overclocking any hardware or otherwise "pushing" anything to a limit. It's just increasing a cache buffer, which has no risk of breaking anything.

You say that as if it's a bad thing. ;)

You know the Russians say that poor people are happy when they kill their Droids and get a free replacement. Or something like that.

Hmmmmm, I thought metadata hasn't been used in years and Google ignores it anyway? But the page could mention Prime somewhere invisible, or Google might just be using heuristics to notice that the two terms have been closely associated. In any case I agree it doesn't imply anything special about the Prime name.

I know when I try to update the PRL by dial *228 I get this message "A Verizon Wireless SIM card has activated your service and updated your phone's roaming capabilities." On the screen never dials out.

    1. I wasn't aware that VZW had announced the phone. I get my info from here. lol.

    2. VZW has already shown they are capable of botching a product launch. Changing the name would be, at best, a floater in a large kettle of poop soup.

Note that I am not necessarily advocating that I think my theory is right. At this point, I'm trying hard to adopt the attitude that when it drops, it drops. I no longer think anyone knows, as it seems the VZW suits keep flip-flopping on the release date.

Can't you not access the RAZR's SIM? I'm assuming that's the case because the battery is non-replaceable. I actually have no idea though.

He told me he got an email saying 50 Galaxy Nexuses... maybe he just read it wrong and it was just accessories? Or maybe there wasn't actually a shipping date set and that won't happen for another couple of weeks... I have no idea at this point :/
