Help Overheating problem

I have a nexus 5 with Android 5.0, I have root and I'm experiencing overheating all the time, even when I'm just browsing the internet without any other apps open... Help is appreciated

When you say overheating, what kinds of temperatures are you encountering? (if you are monitoring the temperatures.) If not, is the phone shutting itself off, or just getting every warm?

i have not been monitoring the temperatures but it gets soo hot it hurts to hold it in my hands, it has been shutting off very often when its hot.

Okay, so it's a true overheating issue. Is there anything that has root permission that may be jamming your phone to full CPU usage? That's the only way I can think of to overheat a phone to turning off

What root-enabled apps do you have installed? Are you on an otherwise-stock ROM and kernel?

1. What is your signal strength when this is occurring? (Settings -> About phone -> Status -> SIM status -> Signal strength (the lower the number, the better))

If your device is constantly searching for a network signal, it could be working extra hard.

2. Do you have your N5 in a case? (I've got one of the Google cases that completely surrounds the phone)

My phone gets a little warm during long-ish (10+ minute) phone calls that I attribute to also having it in a case.

I use Hifont, FKUpdater free, Lucky Patcher and SoftkeyZ

Just installed the Franco kernel and have the stock ROM

Both of those items will indeed contribute but to varying degrees (no pun intended )--your signal strength is similar to what I'm seeing at work, so that's probably not too bad.

I don't remember if the Franco kernel overclocks by default, but make sure you're not cranking it up too high (or at all if you're still getting excessive heat).

You might also simply have a battery that needs replacing vs. a software issue.

I seem to recall that Franco's kernel ran a bit warm on my N4 even without me tweaking anything. You may want to try switching back to the stock kernel (or even another "aftermarket" kernel - I'm also a pretty big fan of faux123's kernel).

I installed CPUtemp today and when I was on popcorn time it got to 72°C

When I had the Franco Kernal for Nexus 5 it was always getting warm
